I know everyone is dying to hear my Rings of Power take, so here it is. RoP suffers from what I call 'The Nacho Problem.'

Almost everyone loves nachos. Grab some corn chips, cheese, lettuce, guac, refried beans, jalapenos, salsa, ground beef, sour cream, etc, throw all that 1/ shit together and it's good every time. It's nearly impossible to fuck up nachos. It's not a sophisticated food. But it's good stuff.

So I tell you that to tell you this. One night I go to a new restaurant here in town, got there kind of late right while friends 2/

[REDNECK STORY TIME] This is not as much a redneck story as a redneck adjacent story about the lengths to which young men will go to torture one another for nothing but our own sick amusement.

I'm talking about the game: "Who's In There Poopin?" 1/ If you haven't heard of that game, it's because only about 30 people played, all of whom lived on the third floor of our dormitory my freshman year.

The origins of WITP are mysterious, but the game itself was simple. We had a community bathroom where, ideally, we were all 2/

Remember how after Dobbs, I kept saying "it's not over, it's not over, don't listen to anyone who says it is."?

This is what I'm talking about. There is no "end game" with far too many parts of the anti-choice crowd. When religion is the primary basis for policy, it 1/ it naturally follows that compromise is not on the table. Faith is not a thing that can meet other people in the middle. If one believes, for example, that drinking alcohol is strictly forbidden, that person cannot go to their place of worship and bargain with the 2/

As promised, a splainer as to why Griswold, etc., are in danger.

Here in deep red America, running on religious issues is a lot like playing a game of blackjack where you can't lose but you can't pick up your chips. You just have to keep playing.

The most reliable 1/ demographic for right wing candidates are church going conservatives, especially older folks. That group turns out every time PROVIDED that you give them something to vote for. That group has outsized power in closed primaries.

You can't NOT run to them. If you want 2/

My experiences are similar to @J_Dot_J and honestly it's really messed with my world view over the last 12 years.

I was raised conservative in a conservative part of the country. The values I was raised with included work hard, stay humble, stay in your lane, the world 1/ doesn't revolve around you, and respect is earned not given. Those are the big ones anyway. So I jaunted out into the world from that small town and, eventually, worked to put those values into practice.

I saw liberals as people who constantly whined about unfairness, 2/

I'm going to do something I have never done but I hope it will be heard: judges of #appellatetwitter - I have a story for you.

I am currently representing a nurse who was fired from her job after she reported some safety issues. Hospital says it's because she was 1/ and angry, abrasive person.

I didn't represent her at the trial court or CoA, but the record is pretty clear about one thing - the record ain't clear. There's nothing that objectively proves one side's case or the other.

All we really know, for sure, is that my person 2/

At @InHouseSecret , @LawyerCat_ , and @EHenak 's request, one of the weirdest cases I've ever been involved in.

This case actually involved a large law firm out of state that must remained unnamed. We were contacted by a female partner of this firm related to a senior 1/ partner's habit of putting his hands where they didn't belong, etc. It wasn't the worst SH case I'd ever seen, but it was definitely a viable claim. So we send a demand letter on her behalf.

We are contacted by counsel for this law firm - they actually retained a 2/

Funny angry judge story. So a few years back, our local PD's office picked up a new hire from a law school out of state - can't remember where, but his parents had some kind of connection in KY.

So anyways, this dude was straight up insufferable right out of the gate. He 1/ carried himself like he'd been practicing for thirty damn years, he talked down to other attorneys, and he was often short with court staff (mortal sin).

So one day he's in front of my judge on a probation revocation hearing. Now my judge rarely revokes probation. 2/

[THREAD] Story time. As is Appalachian tradition, we turn everything into a story. I boxed for a long time. It was the only sport I was naturally good at. I worked hard at it, as well. Boxing is a hell of a sport to train for, which is why so many folks stop short 1/ after awhile. Anyway, every year there was a glorified tough man contest a few towns over from me. Anyone could sign up for this "boxing" tournament. Sign a waiver and you're good to go. So the last year I did it my second round "opponent" was a pretty typical contestant. 2/

#lawtwitter #appellatetwitter The problem: until the legal profession's culture undergoes some changes, this is going to be a problem. Let me tell you a little story about representing a female partner who accused a senior partner of sexual harassment 1/ I send a demand letter to the firm's managing partner. A few days later I receive a call from an outside attorney, who focused in plaintiff's law, saying he represents the firm and that we should mediate the case. Great. So we select a mediator and go mediate at a 2/
