I’ve read Jay-Z’s response to the civil case filed against him.
I’ve also read the statement from Tony Buzbee, the lawyer representing the alleged victim.
And like most of you, I’m left with no clear answer—I have no idea who’s telling the truth.
What I do know is that the allegations against Jay-Z are serious. (Thread) 🧵
1/4 I don’t believe all women, and I don’t believe all men. I believe in due process.
The idea of “Just believe the woman” is not only unconstitutional, but also dangerous. As a woman myself, I know how intense emotions can get. Have you ever seen a woman scorned? Like anyone, women are capable of deep, irrational anger and resentment.
I spoke out publicly about this long before it became a widely popular to do so, during the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings. I’ll never forget the moment I realized how dangerous this mentality could be. I was a guest on The Story with Martha MacCallum on Fox News, and as a mother of a son, the thought that he could live an exemplary life only to have it ruined by an unfounded accusation from 20 years ago was deeply unsettling.
What was even more unsettling was the presence of another mother on the panel—a criminal defense lawyer—who was driven entirely by emotion. I couldn't help but think: God help the son who has to face her in court.
