#GE24newcomers 1/30
A slow thread where I'll identify 30 candidates I see taking seats in #ge24.
In Cork SC @McGrathSeamus should hold the seat vacated by his bother, the EU Commissioner @mmcgrathtd. He was a huge vote getter in #le24 and has @MichealMartinTD as a running mate.
#GE24newcomers 2/30
#ge20 saw the end of an uninterrupted IPP/CnG/FG Redmondite seat in Waterford, going back to 1892. Senator John Cummins flies the @finegael flag, trying to take the seat he missed out on by <700 votes in 2020 and he looks well placed to be a first time TD.

#dublinriots 1/8
Before I hit the sack on this traumatic day for Dublin, I feel I need to share my thoughts.
Today's events are at the same time both shocking yet (especially if you are a regular visitor to the city centre) still unsurprising.
2/8 During the summer of 2020 the powers that be handed the city centre (especially the O'Connell St. area) over to the gurriers.
While Gardai were busy chasing ppl on deserted beaches for breaking Covid lockdowns, there wasn't a Garda to be seen in the city centre.

Thread 1/5
On it's own this is a small but embarrassing climbdown and it's not a major story, however it's a good reflection of the momentum that's going against @FineGael right now.
rte.ie/news/politics/…2/5 @LeoVaradkar's long honeymoon is now over. The party is not delivering on public services, on financial prudence, on housing or on tax cuts. The way the Mercusor deal is being spun is pissing off farmers and this insensitivity to Catholics is just icing on the cake.

Thread 1/7 #EP2019 in the UK
As it seems certain the UK will be voting in May, it's time for a #pollofpolls and a seat projection.
I am using the 6 most recent polls bookended by 2 @YouGov polls, one published today.
First start with the last election and the current polling. @YouGov 2/7 #EP2019 in the UK
The U.K. elects 73 MEPs in 12 regional constituencies. using the D'Hondt system of proporional representation in Britain and S.T.V. like we have in Ireland for the 3 Northern Irish seats.
#pollofpolls 1/6
Time for my February update which comes in two parts, the second part will be regional detail& projections coming tomorrow. Today I'll just look at headline national figure and trends.
Over the past month the only gains have been made by independents & others. #pollofpolls 2/6
While @FineGael contine to poll above 30%, the small gain that @fiannafailparty made at the turn of the year has now been reversed and FF are now back to polling lower than their #GE16 result.
