Pt Nehru refused to meet multiple delegations of Mirpuris. Mahatma Gandhi insisted that Indian Army couldn’t be sent to save the Hindus & Sikhs in POJK because it was snowing in Mirpur. This despite Mirpuris telling him that it doesn’t snow in Mirpur.

Dogra Lt Col Narain Singh of JK State Forces was betrayed by his Muslim officers of the 2 Muslim companies under him. On 21/22 Oct 1947 the Muslim element of 4th Battalion at Lohargali & Ramkot swept by religious fanaticism joined hands with the enemy. #ButchersOfKashmir They lead the enemy to pre arranged positions in Muzzafarabad & Domel.
They not only killed Lt Col Narain Singh Sambyal but also other comrades who stood in the way of their nefarious designs. This was the most treacherous & dastardly act in the annals of military history.

In a way I am glad with what is happening today. It is making me question everything. From my Convent school harassing me for being the only student with a pierced nose & my parents having to defend & explain that it’s an essential part of Dogra culture. Students being fined for speaking regional languages & not English, in the school playground, starkly different to multilingualism being celebrated in schools abroad. Those educated in vernacular medium disadvantaged & labelled Graain/Pendu/Ghaati/Bhaiya/illiterate etc.

Raghunath Mandir, Suchetgarh, is on zero point at the International Border in Jammu. The Mandir was built by Dogra Maharaja Gulab Singh in 1837. The Dogra Jamwal dynasty are Suryavanshi Rajput who trace their lineage to Ikshvaku dynasty & Vishnu Avatar Shri Ram is their Kuldevta. Beautiful wall paintings adorn the garbh griha of the Raghunath Mandir at Suchetgarh, Jammu.

A beautiful painting done by Jammu artist KK Gandhi depicting Krimchi Temples of Udhampur, #Jammu. Locally known as the Pandava Temples because of a belief that the Pandavas worshipped here during their agyat vaas. The Temples consist of 5 temples & 2 shrines.
#TemplesofJammu The Temples have a garbhagriha with curvilinear shikara & an elongated antarala with a sukanasika decorated with kutasikara & kalasa motif. Some temples have a pillared mandapa infront of antarala, which appears to have been added at a later date.

Today I tell you abt a KP family who left the Valley during the tribal raids in 1947 & settled in #Jammu #Bhaderwah. The Koul family. The matriarch Smt Sukhmali Koul, made #Bhaderwah #Jammu her home & went onto become the first Lady teacher in the area, also setting up a school for girls. Giving back to her community, in the best way she could.

Hand on my heart I have been thinking of Dulat the last few weeks. Not just because of the brilliant tweet by @rahulpandita asking us to think abt Faesal & his trip to Delhi & back, but also because I have been wondering who has been pushing these separatists as opposed to Jammu.

How do only Kashmiri scholars/journalists reach the research & policy orgs, are groomed & become blue eyed boys/girls & Jammu remains unrepresented.
