BREAKING: #lalege just passed a bill giving a 2nd chance to hundreds of ppl serving extreme sentences for crimes they committed as children. HB 173 by @EdwardTedJames provides parole eligibility after 25 yrs to youth serving egregiously long sentences – 40, 80, even 300 years.
The law closes a loophole in a 2017 law that curtailed juvenile life without parole, but still allowed for sentences so long they all but guaranteed a child would die in prison. #EndJLWOP#SecondChances
