GOOD NEWS: The Governor’s introduced budget for Special Session starting Monday would reinstate some state eviction protections, including preventing many evictions for nonpayment of rent if landlords do not seek rent relief or give proper notice of the program. SOME DETAILS 1/: This language—similar to the expired 2021 policy—would protect tenants who are 1) facing eviction for nonpayment of rent AND 2) have either qualified for unemployment OR lost income/incurred costs or other financial hardship during or due to (directly or indirectly) the pandemic.
