During this #WomenHistoryMonth remember that Sojourner Truth’s speech was translated to minstrel vernacular by a white woman? She didn’t speak in a stereotypical Southern dialect because she wasn’t from the South and spoke Dutch. Why is this important? Because so much of what we know about Black people in this country is based on a racist official version constructed by people who don’t know us.

This is today's last #Sussex-related post because I have to watch #clubshayshay for a @BaltimoreBanner column. But this review I wrote of #Spare last year pretty much sums up something I've been struggling with, given the venom spewed at that lady. thebaltimorebanner.com/opinion/column… It seems that the ownership that some people feel over Harry and his family is a much more intense version of how we felt when Duran Duran or New Edition got girlfriends. It was supposed to be us! We were like 13 so it certainly could not have been.

Just started #HarryandMeghanNetflix and am reminded that while they were falling in love, unhinged British women were posting conspiracy theories about why they had never met and Meghan was showing up to places Harry would be the stalk him. Hard to surmount that kind of crazy. If I ever call you and tell you I’m going to be staying in a tent for ten days with a new boyfriend I am not in love. I have been kidnapped. I have started #TicketToParadise and already am annoyed by grown rich adults who can’t be civil to each other for their child’s sake for a day. I love that the movie knows the Americans are asshats. That idiot friend who introduces the Balinese man along with his tattoos as if he’s a museum piece and announces she’s going to sleep with him, not knowing he has a pregnant wife.

Black Americans paid taxes during segregation for pools they weren't allowed to swim in, fountains they couldn't drink from and buses they had to ride in the back of.
