And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, slouches towards Westminster to be born?

Today, in answer to my tentative question about rejoining the SM & CM at some point, my v political Dutch friend told me bluntly that the EU sees Britain as 'an untrustable basket case in a process of social & economic collapse. She is a huge anglophile herself... /1
...but she says the people who love Britain have pretty much lost hope and patience. The EU has SO many internal problems & crises of its own, dealing with a recalcitrant Poland, the new far right Italian administration, the energy crisis, the war, etc.. The list goes on. /2

With the 12 new Investment Zones as well as Freeports, and Rees-Mogg's planned assault on the Working Time Directive & EU regs generally, it's it's clear that workers AND the environment in the UK are facing the greatest threat we've seen in modern times.
Whilst we are not yet in corporate ruled Charter City zone, with these new Zones, it's another step in that direction. Every step is likely to strip away more of our rights and protections. I feel very very worried. This is SO fast. We're being steamrollered by the hard right.

WHY will the 18 big Tory donors withdraw their funding if Boris Johnson is toppled as PM?
What is Johnson doing for them that another Tory PM would not, or could not do?
Here's the letter 22 Tory donors wrote to BJ - Dorries got the number of donors wrong, surprise surprise 🙄 - published in the Monday's Sun. Still doesn't explain it. It's just frothy bollocks that pretends Britain is doing fantastic under Johnson.

Why Labour will never take power again:
The majority of Tory voters have a mantra: 'My party right or wrong. I don't want bloody Labour in Govt!"
People like these help keep the Tories in power, no matter how shit & destructive they are. /1
Labour is rather a different kettle of fish.
Large numbers of Labour (& x-Labour) voters seem to have a different mantra, which is unhelpful to say the least:
'The Labour leader must share my ideals, or I won't vote for him/her'.

If you're feeling burned out & hopeless due to threats we're facing, - including the horror of climate change - this thread might be for you. Unconditional support IS available, from an unexpected source, if we reach out for it, through all the chaos & betrayal by our Govts. /1
Today I realised how strongly I have been resisting making contact - physical & emotional - with 'Mother Earth'. I've been seeing our planet as a fragile entity that is so overwhelmed by human attack that she's incapable of supporting me, or anyone. But that's not true. /2

I hadn't realised the Health Bill gets rid of the duty to provide hospital services!! 😱
We are living in dark times, friends.
Please please, email your MP, & sign any petitions you see. We can't depend on friendly aliens to come from Betelguese to save us!
#ScrapNHSBill
PS Can you email your MP TONIGHT, please tweeps?
The 2nd reading of this alarming Health & Care Bill is tomorrow. MPs need to have emails in their inboxes first thing. /2
Govt have laid a fiendishly clever trap for Labour with the Police bill. 🧐
The draconian Protest clauses are being put through as part of a huge bunch of 'law & order' legislation.
If Labour votes against - govt/MSM will splash headlines that Starmer is soft on crime. 1/4
The rumour is that Starmer plans to whip his MPs to abstain, to try & avoid the trap. It won't work. The Govt & MSM will treat an abstention in the same way as they would a vote against.
He may as well do the right thing, and vote against the Bill. 2/4

Lots of tweeps have asked for the text of the letter I posted as a screenshot, to Keir Starmer to ask him NOT to whip his MPs to vote for the Patel's anti-democratic Policing Bill.
Here's a thread containing the letter so you can cut and paste it into an email /1
Dear Keir Starmer,
I was horrified today to learn about Priti Patel’s Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, - specifically, the ‘Protest Powers’ clauses which propose significant changes to the policing and control of public protests and demonstrations. In my view /2
