Had toch gehoopt dat @ukrantgroningen als universiteitsblad zich wat kritischer op zou stellen in dit interview met prof Hans van Koningsbrugge. Een paar kanttekeningen ukrant.nl/magazine/russe… Van Koningsbrugge's 'Nederland-Ruslandcentrum' wordt geïntroduceerd als adviseur "bij het versterken van de banden tussen beide landen", maar deed vooral ook aan business consulting: NL bedrijven de Russische markt op helpen (incl. diensten aan de RUG). Kamil Galeev is like ChatGPT: at first glance, the extensive threads on Russia and Ukraine look convincing and the confidence with which they discuss their topic signal (miraculously broad) expertise. But just like the AI chatbot, it often doesn't hold when you look closer. Selectively borrowing from all kinds of scholarship and commentary (again, signalling expertise through emulation) the conclusions they arrive at are criticised by pretty much all region experts I know (including me) as being often misleading or even false. Look no further: The Palgrave Handbook of Digital Russia Studies is now published in *open access*! palgrave.com/gp/book/978303… 32 chapters, over 600 pages, written by more than 40 contributors. This joint project with @DariaGritsenko and Mikhail Kopotev has been a massive undertaking, but I could not be more proud of the end result.
