One phenomenon of twitter becoming the town square for discussions about #bitcoin is that the most prominent voices have gradually selected more and more for those skilled at self-promotion, and less and less for those who are...you know...good at understanding bitcoin. 1/13 Of the two dozen or so individuals who understand bitcoin best, half aren't even on this platform. This is an interesting thread that gets some stuff very right, but then suddenly overreaches with its conclusion. I agree with @MartyBent's point that Jevon's Paradox works heavily in our favor. As we create ways to more efficiently use blockspace, that absolutely does increase demand for it (all else being equal).

1/6 I've noticed a subtle bait and switch that happens in conversations comparing Proof-of-Work and Proof-of-Stake. Sometimes intentional, sometimes not. But is one of the things that dupes a lot of people into falsely believing that PoS is somehow a legit alternative to PoW. 2/6 Both PoW and PoS are designed in purported to provide consensus without relying on a central authority.

PoW achieves this. PoS does not.

When I look back over the past 3 years, it is staggering how much my life has changed, and Bitcoin was a huge factor in that.

Late 2015/early 2016 was the darkest period of my life: @TuurDemeester 2/27 I was falling further into debt failing out of a university program I didn't yet realize I hated, my social life was little more than getting drunk several nights a week, and I had no constructive hobbies - nights alone were often spent compulsively playing computer games.
