Why do the Conservatives want Russian fighter jets in Canadian skies?

A thread 🧵 with receipts. #cdnpoli Image Over the weekend, the Conservative Party released a video called “Canada. Our Home,” in which weak-on-defence Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre describes his dream vision of our country, Canada.

🧵 BREAKING: Conservative MPs speak at anti-abortion rally.

After discussing in the House of Commons how hundreds of thousands of ‘preborn children’ are being killed, Conservative MPs double down while giving speeches at an anti-abortion rally on Parliament Hill.

WATCH: "We will work hard to build a Canada that’s filled with hope instead of hurt. I ask that you help me be the voice of common sense ... by adding your name to a petition."

🧵 Conservative's record 👇

In 2005, Conservative MP @cherylgallant said "The traditional definition of marriage is the union of one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others. To include same-sex marriage in this definition is not right."

Also in 2005, Conservative House leader @AndrewScheer compared same-sex relationships to a dog, and in 2019 refused to apologize for it.

To all those seemingly buying into the Conservative faux-outrage that Bill C18 is about limiting free speech and not doing exactly what it was intended to do (make tech giants like Google and Facebook pay content creators), I offer the following:
#cdnpoli 1. In the last election, Conservatives ran on adopting this **exact same** legislation. See photo below from their 2021 election platform. Image

Conservatives MPs conveniently ignore some rather impressive stats about our economic performance, like… 🧵

✅ The lowest deficit in the G7

✅ Added 150,000 jobs in January, which is ten times more than market expectations

✅ Recovered 126% of the jobs lost since the peak of the pandemic, compared to 112% in the United States

✅ Increased our employment by 809,000 jobs since the pre-pandemic February 2020 level

🧵 How massive COVID spending measures were approved.

On March 24, 2020 a handful of MPs from each political party were asked to come to Ottawa to pass emergency legislation to authorize massive spending to support Canadians.

#cdnpoli At the time, very little was known about the pandemic or what the future held.

Some politicians suggested it would be over by Easter Weekend while several medical experts indicated it would be with us for years.

To understand what is going on in Ukraine, we must appreciate the that this began with a revolution driven by a younger generation who wanted to be part of the European Union.

A revolution to rid Ukraine of the corruption that lingered from the Soviet Union years gone by.

1/6 As I reflect on this, I am reminded of the man in this photo (black ball cap).

Back in 2017 the Defence Committee (of which I was a member at the time) travelled to Ukraine.

This young man was the Chief of Police of Kyiv.

🚨 Conservative Misinformation 🚨

False: The government can seize the bank account of anyone involved in the occupation.

Truth: The RCMP advises the banks of findings and it remains the responsibility of the banks to make the final decision of freezing accounts.

#cdnpoli False: CPC MP's like @chriswarkentin, have claimed the Emergencies Act "suspends civil liberties".

Truth: Unlike the former War Measures Act, the EA does not suspend civil liberties and in fact explicitly states the Charter of Rights must be maintained.

While Doug Ford attempts to distract you today with his budget that legalizes tailgate parties and changes license plate slogans, let's reflect on 100 things hes cut:

1/100 - Cut funding to children with autism by scaling funding towards age instead of need. #fordcutshurt 2/100 - Killed Cap & Trade resulting in $3-$4B in lost revenue, which doesn’t include the cost of fighting lawsuits. #fordcutshurt
