This is not a statement in criticism of what Jasmine has stated below, but I'd like to add (as a bilingual Japanese trans nonbinary person) that the word "okama" is a partially reclaimed slur against effeminate gay men and trans femme people in Japanese.

Continued ↓ I say "partially reclaimed" because there are actual gay men, trans women, and trans femme people who use this word to describe themselves or their identities in Japanese.

The cool thing about the "Control Panel for Twitter" Chrome add-on that I'm using is that it can distinguish between legacy verified accounts and Twitter Blue accounts (on top of removing For You tab and letting me have immense customization abilities). 😎 I've been using the add-on since last week and my Twitter experinec has been much cleaner and better on Chrome:

I think hard to imagine for younger people born in the age of wider internet availability, but when I learning English as a child (20+ years ago), when I didn't understand an English word I had to look it up on children's English dictionary (physical book), and (continued ↓) if that didn't help, I looked the word up on 英和辞典 (EN to JP dictionary, also a physical book), and when 英和辞書 had words in Japanese that I didn't understand (b/c I was a child), I then had to read regular Japanese dictionary (again, physical book) for more definitions 💀

When you wanna go ghost-busting in Japanese style using some お札 (ofuda = paper talisman), but make it cyberpunk: I'm too lazy to explain what an ofuda is right now so please read the Wikipedia entry if you don't know what it is:

Happy International Transgender Day of Visibility from your friendly internet queer Japanese thembo babe (me)!!! 😘💗

I'm happy to be trans, to be queer, and to be living my best life right now!!! 🥰🏳️‍⚧️

#TDOV #TDOV2023 #TransDayOfVisibility A picture of Mishima Kitan in a white wrangler hat. In the hegemonic society, we may still need to obtain "visibility" but I hope we can move onto Trans Day of Support where trans people (especially those who are further marginalized by other intersectional factors) can receive tangible support because that's what's really needed.

It's been a month since I moved & I feel more comfortable sharing where I moved to (and I'd also like to get loca information).

I'm in Bangkok right now & I'll be living here for a while! 🇹🇭💗 ٩( ᐛ )و

Local people, please let me know cool places & shopping centers I can go to! I have been so busy dealing with moving in, settling in, doing paperwork, having and recovering from surgery, and doing work from home, and all that so I have done barely any sightseeing (although I did go to some cool shopping centers and karaoke too)!

It's not just that this manga gets it.

The author of "She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat" (@thakaome_uzzaki ) has CONSISTENYLY stood up for LGBTQ+ rights in Japan publicly (which many authors avoid for the fear of social repurcussions from the cis heteronormative majority). Not to mention that the author has also been a trustworthy ally of trans people.

From a tweet from 2020, the author wrote: "If 'feminisim' is to exclude trans women, then I would not want to call myself a feminist."

~ Kitan's Surgery Journey # 13 ~

I had my stitches and face cast removed today! :D

I still can't wash my face for the next few days but my face feels so free right now!

Just been looking at my face in the mirror and being like, "MODERN MEDICAL PROGRESS FUCKING RULES!!!" ( ᐛ ) Wow, I am so happy of how the outcome came out so well and thankful I only had minimal complications so far 😊

I have to periodically check in with the surgeon for the next year to keep track of my progress and healing. (The doctor has complete healing takes 12 months.)

Just remembering my childhood when my mother would nag me about having "good manners" in public but internally I was like, "You threw a fucking chair at a girl when you were in Jr. High because she was talking behind your back, what are you even talking about." My mom wanted me to have good manners in public because we're Japanese & a child's manners are seen as reflection of their family but my mom was an unhinged woman who did whatever so it felt unfair that I had to carry the responsibility of making her look good to the society.

I was shopping around for a new electric shaver & saw that Panasonic was featuring a Japanese drag queen Durian Lollobrigida for the promotional material of Lamdash 6 shaver, and I really felt a positive change of times because this never happened when I was a kid in 90s Japan 🏳️‍🌈 Image My apologies, I forgot the ALT text for the above image: An image of Japanese drag queen Durian Lollobrigida in full makeup for an ad for Panasonic Lamdash 6. The Japanese text on the image translated to English is, "Experiencing 6-blade shaver for the first time."

One person of a queer couple* in Japan adopting the other partner as their "child" happens quite often and many choose to do so because the Japanese government has yet to legalize marriage equality or else they won't have legal recognition of their partners as a family member. Right now, legal marriage is only allowed to people who are deemed heterosexual on paper in Japan.

By that I mean, if a Japanese trans woman (who's legal government document is still classified under "male") cannot marry her cis male partner, even though they are heterosexual.

~ Potentially useful JP fact: Spooky Ver. ~
The verb: 出る (deru)

The artwork by this famous Japanese paranormal artist is titled 出るぞ!! which translates to "[IT] APPEARS!!"

In this thread, I will explain why this verb 出る is used in paranormal context. 👻🧵 The verb 出る means for something or someone to "come out."

In colloquial Japanese, this specific verb means for ghosts or other paranormal things to appear.

As you may already know (if you're familiar with Japanese), our language notoriously has a lack of subjects in sentences

🎮 QUEER GAME LOVERS!✨

It will be great if you could RT this tweet below from a small Japanese game dev company!

This post is an late-summer greeting and the OP is wishing for more queer games in the world & for this company to be able to develop queer games! (1/2) I've been informed by a JP queer acquaintance that depending on the reaction the original tweet gets, the higher-ups in the company may feel inclined to develop queer games!

It will be great if you can like and share the original tweet above so this can happen! :3

Some ice cream bars (or popsicles) in Japan have a thing where a few out of many have あたり (atari) written on them. This means you won the prize to get a free bar in exchange.

This one says たたり (tatari) which means "curse" 👻 This isn't an actual ice cream bar but it's a parody merch created by @creamciderkun as the OP noted below:

This capsule toy series called 熟GO! ("JUKUGO!") which in itself is a pun of jukugo (compound kanji words) and "GO!" because they're toy vehicles.

These toys are like Hot Wheels but with jukugo on top. But why???

I shall explain that to you in this thread 😎 Image In Japanese, there is an idiomatic expression, "[insert noun] が走る" ("[insert nown] ran.")

走る (hashiru) can mean "run" but it is a verb used for vehicles driving by.

So you can say:
人が走っている = "A person is running."
車が走っている = "A car is driving by."
