I hope you know that @SpeakerMcCarthy is perfectly willing to let over 6 million mothers and infants IMMEDIATELY lose access to WIC & be turned away at grocery stores to feed their children.

The party of family values is willing to let an estimated 39% of all infants go hungry. I want us to understand that @SpeakerMcCarthy is scared to lose HIS job so he’ll happily let 2 millions federal workers be forced to go without theirs.

He’ll collect a check and maintain his party perch while people go without during record high inflation.

I know you’re not asking this question in good faith, but I’m gonna answer for the sake of those who think this way:

There is no America, as you know it or as we wish it were, without the stolen and voluntary contributions and brilliance of Black Americans. I remember my AfAm class in 12th grade, a guest speaker came in and we merged w the Am History class.

A girl commented “I thought history was just about learning about the people in power.”

Yes, she was.

And she reflects a v common, unquestioned belief.

The entitlement that white supremacy culture teaches works two ways:

It is here to both tell white people that they deserve what does not belong to them—and that Black people do not deserve what *does* belong to us.

Our birthrights be damned. Every time some fixes their mouth to say that Black people do not need anything to level the playing field, remind them that *living survivors and direct descendents* of racist domestic terrorism were *not even given their day in court* to prove their case for repair.

My black (and excellent) doctor checked THREE times for me because I really didn’t want a c-section. In the end, my 24 week old baby was simply not going to survive any other way.

This is abjectly false BUT I want y’all to see what is being done purposefully:

“Woke” is being recast as an *outright threat,* which makes it-and us-far easier to attack. They’ve even added an “-ism” to make it sound sinful-like racism im or sexism.

This is intentional. When “woke” means “liberal” principles or “political correctness, casting it as “wokeism” makes it easy to attack those principles through, say, the banning of books.

When “woke” v simply means Black people, “wokeism” makes it easier to, say, suppress our votes & protest.

There is a white woman on tik tok who's husband wrapped their toddler in saran wrap as a supposedly "funny punishment" for getting into things (which is developmentally appropriate). They put the video on TT & CPS came and got the child. There's got to be a growing field of study in psychology about growing in the internet age

B/c the children whose parents have used them for clicks & go out into a world with millions of parasocial relationships waiting on them that they did not consent to is a growing number.

That’s some *nasty* work, baby. Black families of all varieties entrust their children to folks like this. The legacy of Black educators and mentors-yes, that includes coaches-is one of commitment, radical love and protection in a hostile world.

RENAISSANCE was such a complex, communal, affirming album and one thing I’ll never be over is how Beyoncé continually understands her impact on the lives and careers of others. Meticulously chosen lyrics, collaborators, even words in acceptance speeches. I’m upset about AOTY (because like what else she gotta do?!?) but I do love that this is the album with which she set a new record of Grammy wins.

What’s really clear about some of the reaction to the murder of #TyreNichols is that we’ve failed to fully understand race and it’s construction as a *systemic tool.*

The entire system of policing sees the Black body as a problem. No matter who pulls the trigger. Black bodies were America's first capitol. Bought, sold, priced with cattle: property. And property is controlled.

So our Black bodies are meant to be controlled by the American institutions that have roots in and replaced enslavement--*particularly* the criminal legal system.
