Today is an important day for our ag industry.

We’ve signed a historic agreement between Govt, industry & unions to tackle workforce challenges that have existed for years. The Government, National Farmers' Federation, Australian Unions, meat processors & more have agreed to work together to skill more Australian workers, supply PALM & other migrant workers & strengthen worker protections.

I see Matt Canavan was on @TheTodayShow today, wandering around NSW, lying about how Labor’s policies will affect Qld. Here are the facts. 🧵 Our independent modelling clearly states our policy will have “no impact on scheduled generator retirements”. Renewables will largely meet new energy needs (cutting prices & emissions), existing generators will continue operating till scheduled closure, no matter who is in govt.

On @InsidersABC Acting PM Barnaby Joyce pushes the myth that our regions must choose between traditional industries & new ones. Our regions are moving on: they see the huge jobs opportunity in traditional AND new industries, from cutting emissions. Here are just a few examples. In traditional industries like agriculture, our peak farming organisation the National Farmers Federation, has called for NZE2050, saying “there is a huge potential for Australia to be a global leader in low-emissions agriculture.” nff.org.au/media-release/…

For the first time, FOI documents reveal the Morrison Govt actually rejected aerial fire fighting requests 'due to other priorities'. Their negligence put Australians at risk. abc.net.au/news/2020-08-1… “Documents released under FOI show the National Aerial Firefighting Centre, supported by the Australasian Fire and Emergency Services Authorities Council, had been trying to secure a permanent increase in funding for water bombers & other firefighting aircraft for over a year.”

Here’s what we’ve learned about #COVIDSafe app from today’s #COVIDー19 Senate hearing. Remember, the PM has made app uptake central to relaxing restrictions, to be discussed at National Cabinet in two days’ time. 5.1 million Australians have downloaded & registered the app. That’s 20% of population - half the 40% the PM said was “the minimum” needed for it to work.

Scott Morrison’s Deputy PM today in the @australian whines that “it really annoys me that I think states have been let off the hook largely this summer”. Here’s a few things that annoy me, about the recent bushfires... @australian It really annoys me that, as we learned at Senate #estimates this week, Scott Morrison was warned “on multiple occasions” about the risk the bushfires posed, but he did nothing.

“A federal government plan to prepare for the dire effects of climate change-related natural disasters was left to gather dust in the Department of Home Affairs for 1½ years before catastrophic bushfires hit last month.” afr.com/news/politics/… The Morrison Government was repeatedly warned these fires were coming, and ignored advice to prepare for them. Their recklessness and incompetence has put Australians at huge risk.

4 years ago, the Govt was asked to expand our national water bombing fleet. They refused and Australians are now paying the price. smh.com.au/politics/feder… NSWRFS Commissioner press conference just confirmed business case for national aerial firefighting capability has been with Feds for over 18 mths. Refers to problems caused by funding uncertainty.

Today's @LNPQld racism scandal is not a one off incident involving random kids. It is the latest in a pattern of events involving Young LNP members, who are connected to Federal MPs, endorsing racist and extremist views. A thread. @LNPQLD It wasn't that long ago that the President of the University of Qld LNP Club was caught out saying he would have joined the Nazi Party in 1930s Germany. news.com.au/national/queen…

Right now, @SenatorCash making statement to Senate to explain why her staff have contradicted her, about police leak scandal, in their evidence to court. For 3 days, media has reported evidence of Cash’s former staff in court. Yet she still claims she is unaware of that evidence and can’t comment. Wilful blindness won’t save this disgraced, desperate Minister.

This story’s got it all – a $2.4M govt grant, Warren Entsch’s campaign manager, Entsch’s son, the campaign manager’s wife & his business partner. I’m asking about it in RRAT #Estimates now. Barry O’Sullivan now disputing that this may amount to a conflict of interest #Estimates
