"The pay gap doesn't exist"

"Trans people don't make less than cis people"

Oh, really? Image “Women overall are paid 87 cents on the dollar compared to men on an hourly basis. But the gap is more severe for trans women.

The same survey found only 37 per cent of respondents were employed full-time.”

Richard has either failed to read the declaration he’s signed, or he’s adopted the position of being anti-science and anti-human rights. I think it’s time for a breakdown thread… The declaration states that signees are pushing for “all appropriate measures, including legislation, to modify or abolish existing laws, regulations customs and practices which constitute discrimination against women.’’

That seems fine, right?

Here’s an article full of juice transphobic quotes from @maximebernier, which I will now break down in a 🧵, for anyone who believes they might have merit:

langleyadvancetimes.com/news/peoples-p… In crafting that tweet, I discovered that @maximebernier has blocked me.

Does it make financial sense for most commuters to get an EV yet? Let’s use the Nissan Leaf and Versa as examples.

EV batteries have about a 15yr lifespan and cost about $5500 to replace, and commuters average about 20,000km/yr. 🧵 Cost of a Nissan Leaf = $45k
Cost of a Nissan Versa = $20k
Point at which an EV breaks even (assuming 20,000km/yr) = 8yrs

I’ve told @NDP candidates that I will shout my support for them from rooftops if they’re just able to tell me that they won’t let the party whip bully them into pushing forward legislation that furthers environmental damage, and still they stay silent. Does this surprise me? No.

This isn’t a theoretical, this is what happens here in BC. We have a @bcndp government who ran a campaign where they convinced voters they were the party to vote for if you want climate action. They’re now destroying our environment.

A big shout out to two local politicians who I know care deeply about our environment- @BonitaZarrillo & @LDupont4Poco! My only hesitation in supporting these two amazing people is the party they’re running for, because every party, except @CanadianGreens, whip their votes. While the @NDP are my first choice for a whipped party and I struggle to support @CanadianGreens because of their leader and internal politics, I’m inclined to always look for candidates who are not whipped, and therefore won’t be pressured to abandon their principles.

This is a genderqueer flag, designed by by Marilyn Roxie in 2011. Lavender represents androgyny or queerness, white represents agender identity, and green represents those whose identities which are defined outside the binary. Image This is the suffragette flag, which was created to represent the Women's Social and Political Union, founded in Britain in 1903. It has now been adopted by Trans Exclusionary Radicals (TERs) to make their presence known.

They’re turning a suffragette symbol into a hate symbol. Image

1/ The @bcndp talk a big game about protecting the environment, but actions speak louder than words, so let's take a look at their actions over the past 3.5 years.
#bcpoli 2/ Trans Mountain Pipeline:
The @bcndp vowed to fight the pipeline in the courts through all available means. They tried to regulate it; for example, by requiring a permit for heavy oil flowing through the pipeline.

We need better healthcare coverage in BC! I’m barely working right now and I just had to spend $185 for 3 months of medication that I need to survive and that’s not the only medication I take. That’s minimal compared to what some people pay and yet it’s still a huge burden. To put that into perspective. I just spent more than what I’ll make this week on what amounts to about 1 month of my total medication costs.

Does anyone else remember the 2017 election when the @bcndp trotted out their LGBTQ2+ candidates to defend the anti-LGBTQ2+ Chak Au?

Or, do you remember how the @bcndp refused to ban conversion therapy in 2019?

As a queer person, @BCGreens is my party of choice.
#bcpoli The @BCGreens voted in favour of adding gender identity & expression to the BCHRC, successfully pushed for gender equity in dress codes, introduced legislation to have gender neutral language in FOI requests and introduced legislation to ban conversion therapy.

I have some big news to share. I'm seeking the @BCGreens nomination in the riding of Coquitlam-Maillardville.

I believe in what @BCGreens stand for, I'm proud of what we've accomplished and I'm hopeful that we can continue to help guide BC through this difficult time.
#bcpoli Image This rushed election is not what I was hoping or prepared for, but I want to see strong @BCGreens representation where I live. I believe strongly in giving people an option they can feel proud to vote for, rather than having to choose between parties that uphold the status quo.

I just finished watching The Social Dilemma. It's powerful and thought-provoking and I highly recommend checking it out. I would be lying if I said that social media doesn't have a certain level of control over me, but I also try to take precautions to limit that control. I didn't learn much that I didn't already know from the documentary, but it did act as a good reminder of why we all need to stay vigilant. I also recognize the irony in sharing this on social media, but arguably, that's the best place for it to be shared.

What an absolutely irresponsible thing for the @bcndp to do. They don’t care about British Columbians, they just care about power. Im not seeing much difference between them and the @bcliberals. The @bcndp supported Site C, LNG, fracking and old-growth logging. Their governance is nearly as bad for the environment as the @bcliberals and they had to go crawling to the @bcliberals for support because @BCGreens refused.

I criticized transphobes for spending money on a billboard promoting JK Rowling instead of helping the community. In return I've been told that I'm not doing enough to support homeless LGBTQ2+ youth. It's turned out to be a pretty ridiculous conversation, so let me sum it up... Apparently volunteering as director on a Pride board, President of another Pride board, speaking in schools, creating weekly educational videos, advocating for LGBTQ2+ people and affordable housing at a municipal/federal/provincial level and consulting business' is not enough.

I decided to give vulnerability a try and, as expected, it’s extremely difficult. I can’t confirm that I made the right choice, but I can confirm that vulnerability leads to extreme anxiety (at least for me). Unfortunately, I dealt with severe depression for a very long time. During that time I felt little to no emotion. What I’m realizing now is that I never learned how to process my emotions, so situations that I haven’t been in since then feel new and foreign.

Four days ago I shared that I want to be more vulnerable and express how I feel in the moment. I actually did that today and it was terrifying. I don’t know what will come of my vulnerability, whether it will affect my life negatively or positively, but I think I’m glad I did it. My anxiety is through the roof, probably more than it’s ever been, but the panic attacks have stopped, I’m somewhat functional and I stuck to my goal of seeking discomfort in an attempt to better my life.

Further to the points I made during the panel, here are some more comments and concerns with regard to the topics of BC's return to school and the possibility of a snap election (thread).

A big thank you to @joninacampbell for taking the time to talk to me about this yesterday. The Bonnie Henry back-to-school ad highlighted the issue of safety in school in an unintended way, displaying flaws rather than relieving anxiety. Changing physical distancing from 2m to 1m is confusing and highlights the fallacy of maintaining safe physical distance in schools.

I follow rappers and reaction channels so I've seen @IAMTOMMACDONALD's People So Stupid circulating. It's getting enough attention that I can't ignoring it without providing a breakdown of the lyrics (thread). "I'm praying that the world changes soon
Can't get a doobie on a plane, but there's Uzis in our schools."

I can't argue with this. It's different in Canada, but it's mind-blowing that in the US it's easier to buy and carry a gun than a plant.

People seem to think there was a lot of porn in my home growing up, because of how often I talk about growing up and seeing trans people in porn. There was not a lot of it, it just stands out because that's literally the only trans representation I could find. I tried to search how I was feeling and all I could find was "tranny porn." It made me think that being trans was a fetish. I couldn't relate and it made me ashamed of who I was.

The results from the polls on whether folks are butch, femme or stem are in. They're definitely not scientific, but they are interesting (thread): The results for straight women don't surprise me, but I wonder how much of this is due to societal pressure. The results for straight men do surprise me, but I wonder if that's because these terms are generally used to describe women. Image
