A little about me: When I was a senior in high school I was graduating 7th in my glass.

Rural South Carolina.

I was almost on a full scholarship to college. I had won so many scholarships because my grades were that good.

I wanted to be a doctor. One of the last pieces of advice I got was from one of my teachers.

A nice white lady.

She came from a long line of teachers and supported an internship class where I got to shadow doctors.

I was able to learn more about treating HIV/AIDs.

You see I wanted to be a doctor.

I didn't want to have to do this but oh well let's do it.

I spent the entire weekend listening to a bunch of nonsense after hearing the most racist stuff I've heard since I've entered the #WordPress community.

I tried to talk it out but since I cannot "prove" racism happened. I'm going to just lay everything out and be done with it.

I talk to black and brown people from all over the world and I try to convince them to get into WordPress as a way to start their tech career.

I hope I didn’t lose any credibility with you all today, the community is so much better than the absolute shit show today was. It just further proves that people are the way they are because of these lily white spaces. They feel comfortable speaking on our experiences and we can’t let that continue. We have to enter these spaces. We can’t let people write our stories for us.
