LAND TENURE REFORMS
The Govt of Zimbabwe implemented the land reform program in three phases since independence. Phase 1 covered the period 1980-1997 and saw 76 000 households being resettled. Phase 2 inception covered the period 1998 - June 2000 and saw 4 800 households being resettled. Phase 3 fast track started in July 2000 and 24 000 farmers were allocated land under model A2 whilst 240 000 were allocated under model A1. MINISTER MASUKA: Government has been engaging with financial institutions to improve the tenure documents for resettled farmers to become bankable. The key issues that needed addressing are that of registration, bankability and transferability. Various consultations were held to address these matters.

So, we are saying the question has been asked to both parties if there was any roora.

IT CANT BE OPTIONAL FOR MARRIAGES OFFICER TO ASK IF LOBOLA WAS PAID OR NOT

HON. SEN. CHIEF CHARUMBIRA: Thank you Madam Chair. There is freedom of choice in Zimbabwe. You can choose what you want to apply to your marriage. CHIEF CHARUMBIRA: If you want to leave the customary law, you go to the general law. If you want to leave the general law, you can go to customary law. If someone appears before me for a customary law, it is their choice.

CLAUSE 16 MARRIAGES BILL COMMITTEE STAGE (PAYMENT OF LOBOLA)

On Clause 16;

MINISTER ZIYAMBI: Thank you, Hon. Chair, I propose the amendments standing in my name; that on page 8 of the Bill, delete sub-clause (5) on lines 30 and 31 and substitute the following subclasses: MINISTER ZIYAMBI: “(5) A marriage officer in a customary law marriage may put to either of the parties to a proposed marriage or to the witnesses, any questions relevant to the identity of the parties to the proposed marriage,
