1) This thread is as long as a CVS receipt. It details the harms and legal threats I’ve faced since Feb in Joe Penney’s attempt to steal or control my film work. It’s giving Cadillac Records but with no budget. Thru his unprompted apologies, you can see why I’ve been so stressed: 2) I found out the film #sunofthesoil was on Netflix through IG. I worked on it for $0 from 2017-2020 as a writer, co-director, and producer. I own 50% of this film. But I now need a lawyer to advocate for me as an investor and to eventually be paid. Joe also controls the socials

In March, Zoe Rana Mungin (30) wasn’t admitted to a clinical trial for Remdesivir. Her sister Mia turned to Twitter for help. Zoe, a writer and teacher, had been denied a COVID test twice. The *3rd* time Zoe went to Brookdale Hospital, she was put on a ventilator a day later. After a month-long fight for her life, Zoe Mungin died on April 27, 2020 at 12:25pm in the same hospital where another sister died of an asthma attack at the age of 20.

This was so beautiful: École des Sables performing The Rite of Spring in collaboration with Pina Bausch Foundation. Location: Toubab Dialaw, Senegal. Director: Florian Heinzen-Ziob DP: Enno Endlicher ImageImageImageImage The expressions, the commitment to moments, the air of conviction, the people on the beach pausing to watch... this was truly dance as a summoning. I wish I could hear their hair and footfalls, the wind that evening. ImageImageImageImage

Today would've been Emmett Till's 79th birthday. Mamie Till Mobley said he was "the happiest baby in the world… you could put him in his bed, and he would lie there and kick and coo for hours." (Beauchamp's 2005 documentary) Image "We had fun together, we laughed together... he was very good in art and he was very good in science. He seemed to unravel that science like nobody’s business. He was very good in spelling, too.” ImageImage

This thread doesn’t challenge whiteness. It is whiteness. Giuliani’s tweet is a racist, targeted attack—part of a sustained violence against a US Congresswoman. Whiteness is quietly doing the work to help others understand the logic of that attack (well, they do look alike). Whiteness is misnaming violence and making it a feature of race instead of practice. Violence does not have to be fixed or tribal. Whiteness is acting like an ally here while softly echoing the initial violence. Whiteness is refusing to see, hear, or actually resist.

Thread to rebuke stress: my favorite perfumes!

Age 14, first and most repurchased scent is Noa: peony, coriander, musk, white flowers, pepper. It’s a really dreamy, flexible, clean, inky, elegant scent that works for me year-round Image Next I tried Amor Amor, a super bright, tart, sugary perfume. Young auntie vibes. Grapefruit, jasmine, amber, cedar. Its loudness could almost make you squint but in a mostly good way Image

During my thesis defense, Dean Young said my work was “anti-male and anti-American.” He couldn’t answer when I asked what that means and said nm. Then he asked if I was going to cry lmao. Tbh that should’ve been a heads-up for what I’d often experience in academia and publishing Asked again if I needed a break, presumably to cry (which is ok to do!), I said while running there a kaleidoscope of butterflies flew out of a bush and landed on my collarbone #blessed Silence, obviously lol. We moved on when Van Jordan said: ANYWAYS 😆

Each death has its own space but today is particularly sad. Hodan Nalayeh was a young elder whose primary work was inspiring optimism through storytelling. That terrorists use violence to cut off life, aiming to transform hope into despair is almost unbearable. I think about Hodan Nalayeh’s sons, how their homeland is now also the place where their parents were killed, how difficult it may become to fight bitterness inside themselves. How meaningless the political aims of these killings in the face of such intimate, incalculable harm.

I have no authority and no paycheck for this but #UsMovie touched a lot of deeply personal reference points and I don’t want these weird feelings inside me.
******Spoilers follow There were so many perspectives on realness: reflection, shadow, mimesis—even creatures/things get twins (spider, rabbit, ambulance). By the time we see how the Tethered (They) live, we have many signals to think about who lives vs who performs a life

@poetrymagazine your irresponsibility is startling, and it’s not the first time Fascists indoctrinate their children. Fascists make pillow talk. Fascists counting the dead or noting “erasure” is facts, is trophy, not empathy. Fascists depend on good faith to mask them

“Pushit!, a site-responsive performance by @okaynickay is a meditation on emotional labour and the impossibility of the stage as a place of freedom for the Black performer. This work is part of a larger set of 'exercises in getting well soon.’” @154artfair NY May 2018 Image It was lucky to bump into NIC just before leaving the fair. At first it was mostly silent except for NIC’s exhalations and quiet groans. Afterwards, I needed to clean my hands but my heart felt washed Image
