I believe that ethnocentrism in Iran is real, serious, common and at the same time dangerous.
And the reason is that in the last century, when nation-building had reached its peak in the world, ... (2)
... Iran still remained like the "corpse of an empire" that lacked a necessary central power and did not start nation-building, while deceiving themselves that "yeah, Iran is a historical nation and does not need nation-building ! ...".

In 1935 the Persian government requested countries with which it had diplomatic relations to call Persia Iran, which is the name of the country in Persian. (2)
This was a grievous error based on a misdirected sense of nationalism. The suggestion for the change is said to have come from the Persian ambassador to Germany, who came under the influence of the Nazis.
