The next 72 hours gonna be rough in DeSantis World.

The first round of polls post reset/@JakeTapper interview are coming out and they’re just bad for RD.

/1 The slavery remarks, however they are framed and rebutted, are drawing a reaction more intense than almost anything @RonDeSantis has said.

They’re worse than Ukraine-territorial dispute. They’re worse than the other culture war stuff.

If you were wondering why @RonDeSantisFL may have asked @AdamLaxalt to direct the @NvrBackDown24 super PAC, it may be, in part, because of what this poll out of Kentucky shows… .@KellyCraftKY is yet another @jeffroe-backed GOP candidate on their way to defeat.

Putting politics aside for a moment, and with Memorial Day Weekend approaching, can we talk about a developing trend that must be stamped out — and that is man-floating, the act in which a bro lays on his float and camps out at the stairs of the pool. Image Man-floating is the manspreading of Summer 2023 and it must end.

How the hell are we supposed to get into the pool without going through this guy, like he’s the bouncer at some club?

The more I think about it the more I am convinced there is the same existential threat posed to @RonDeSantisFL by the @Disney lawsuit as there was to Fox & Tucker Carlson by the Dominion action.

#FlaPol Why?

Because @RonDeSantisFL made fighting Disney central to his re-election campaign and his political operation writ large.

This makes the entirety of the DeSantis re-election vulnerable to discovery.

I continue to try to unsubscribe from #DonaldTrump's fundraising emails, but to no avail.

Lawmakers reconvene this week for a Special Session to consider a new 30-year Compact between the state and the Seminole Tribe that would expand gambling and legalize sports betting.

Here is a #FlaPol 🧵on who to watch this week: #1, obviously, is @GovRonDeSantis himself.

Everyone I talk to says the Gov. is personally invested and involved in finalizing Compact.

He worked A LOT this past weekend to damp down dissension in GOP ranks with the deal. He does not want to have to sign a revised Compact.

Fresh poll numbers from @FLChamber on @GovRonDeSantis and 2022.

A #FlaPol 🧵 .@GovRonDeSantis job approval is currently at 55%.

He receives 88% support from Republicans and 57% support from NPAs.

A couple of thoughts on the latest developments on the upcoming Special Session to ratify the Compact with the Seminole Tribe.

A 🧵 I moderated a post-Session panel today for the Tampa Chamber of Commerce

I was surprised to hear lawmakers flat-out say they view this new Compact as an "expansion" of gambling in Florida.

I'm not going to out the ex-girlfriend, but I'll throw some chum in the water.

Her identity in Tallahassee is an open secret.

She's also a Fla. Dep't of Education employee.

A few nuggets ... I started tracking this woman's story in early April.

She met Joel Greenberg 3 years ago off of SeekingArrangement website.

They not only got her an internship in U.S. House, but also a job at Florida Dep't of Education. DOE will likely deny this, but its what she told ppl.

After a pro-Trump insurrection at Capitol that left four people dead, this is how Florida Republicans reacted.

A #FlaPol thread. .@SenRickScott voted in favor of the objection to @JoeBiden's win in Pennsylvania in the face of his own Republican colleague, Pat Toomey, saying there was 'no evidence of significant fraud' in the election.

To me, this is one of the most interesting singular pieces of data about the presidential race in Florida.

@RealDonaldTrump, perhaps surprisingly, won purplish Pinellas by 1% in 2016, so this represents a FOURTEEN POINT swing away from him. @realDonaldTrump What you should understand is that Pinellas' population and demographics are extrordinarily stable, esp. when compared to other counties in Florida.

The voters who voted in 2016 are the people who are being polled now.

Florida Democrats hold a considrable advantage over @FloridaGOP through the first phase of voting in Florida (voting-by-mail but no in-person early voting).

BUT — and this is a big but and I cannot lie... @FloridaGOP 79% of Florida Republicans who voted in all of the previous four elections have yet to cast a ballot.

Democrats have 65.3% of their 4/4 voters.

This represents a 474,484 voter advantage for Republicans.

To be clear, this is not the sentiment - yet - with Trump’s team in Florida.

There is almost a separate track effort to win Florida no matter what the national polls show. I spent a lot of time this past week talking to upper echelon of @realDonaldTrump’s team in Florida.

1. They’re buoyed by the data they see; they’re looking at models from three sources and they say numbers are encouraging.

The numbers in FL CD 13 are why I believe, at this stage, @JoeBiden is in much better shape in Florida than @HillaryClinton in 2016.

@StPetePolls has it:

Biden 54%, @RealDonaldTrump 40%.

/1 @JoeBiden @HillaryClinton @StPetePolls @realDonaldTrump You can argue all you want about which polling shops get numbers right, but we (@Fla_Pol & @StPetePolls) understand one district, it’s CD 13.

It’s why we nailed @DavidJollyFL winninng to the tenth of a percent in 2015-16 and why we got the @realAnnaPaulina upset right.

I feel like if I don't get this all out there now, I might get scooped again, as I was here that @GovRonDeSantis administration is likely to rescind ALL of Rick Scott's last minute, Senate-confirmable appointments. The bad blood (and that's a bit of an overstatement) between the outgoing and incoming governor began post-election when it was clear that Rick Scott was headed to a recount (of some sort) and Ron DeSantis wasn't.
