Our new factsheet covers the 🕸 spookiest 🕸 of topics: how the US gov’t uses tax dollars to prop up the fossil fuel industry’s devilish schemes known as carbon capture and storage (CCS) and fossil hydrogen. oilchange.org/publications/f…
Despite the abundant evidence of these technologies’ failures, the US subsidizes them with more public money than any other country. It has committed over $12 billion to them over the past 40 years. It’s ghoulish – and just the beginning. 👹

The ongoing invasion of Rafah is a devastating new climax in the genocide against Palestinians. We continue to be in solidarity w/ millions in Palestine, & in the streets & campuses, led by Palestinians & Jews, calling for a #CEASEFIRE
Our statement 👇🧵 priceofoil.org/2024/05/09/oil…
As Israel’s genocidal campaign intensifies, so does global opposition to it: students around the world are speaking out despite facing violent backlash and repression. Over 2,100 students have been arrested in the United States alone. 2/ theguardian.com/us-news/articl…

🚨 NEW: Our latest analysis tracks the trail of death and destruction along the supply chains that bring fossil fuels to Israel. Read about who is supplying the oil fueling the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.⬇️ #CeasefireNOW #OilFuelsWar 🇵🇸 priceofoil.org/israel-fuel-pr…
Israel’s war machine is heavily reliant on imports from the US, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Gabon, plus Brazil, Saudi, the UAE & Egypt. Oil majors like @bp_plc @Chevron @exxonmobil @Shell are complicit as well. #StopTheGenocideInPalestine

1/ 🚨 New report 🚨 None of the oil and gas producing countries in the North Sea are on track to stop drilling in time to reach the 1.5°C warming limit.
❌ Has approved the most expansion of oil and gas in the region.
❌ Threatens to be the world’s 12th largest developer of new oil and gas fields.
❌ Is fully unaligned in most categories.
The science is clear: we need a full, fast, fair, funded phaseout of fossil fuels. But oil companies and the governments that support them are delaying what is needed.
Phaseout of fossil fuels

We must refuse weasel words and distractions like CCS and abates.

1/ We just released a new report titled “Biden’s Fossil Fuel Fail: How U.S. Oil + Gas Supply Rises under the Inflation Reduction Act, Exacerbating Environmental Injustice.”
Here’s the short version:
🧵👇 #EndFossilFuelspriceofoil.org/2023/11/20/fos…2/ The IRA & Biden's policies fail to reduce oil + gas production or alleviate impact on environmental justice communities.
How do we know?
We examined previously unpublished data by @Rhodium_Group an independent research group that analyzes U.S. energy + emissions under IRA.

Tomorrow, global fossil fuel pusher General Electric (GE) is holding its annual ‘investor conference’, a high-stakes event at which the company will try to paint itself as a green, clean energy leader to investors. @generalelectric and @GE_Vernova risk hurting communities #TheEnergytoChangetheWorld is generated by wind and solar, not dirty fossil gas and LNG as @GE_Vernova plans for our future. Investors, urge @generalelectric not to risk its reputation locking in decades of pollution and fuelling the climate crisis. $GE marketforces.net/ge

“In a crucial year, this COP made NO progress towards the just + equitable phase-out of fossil fuels we so desperately need.”
Full response from our experts: priceofoil.org/2022/11/20/cop…
The most important advances at #COP27 happened outside the official UNFCCC process, where our movement for climate justice grows stronger everyday.
"We need to include all fossils & we want stronger language on the ban of expansion of new extraction & production. To be serious about keeping 1.5 alive we need to include those targets in the cover decision by the end of today" - H.E. Mr. Seve Paeniu, Min' of Finance, Tuvalu
"The energy & equity outcomes of COP go hand in hand. Keeping 1.5 alive means accelerating the equitable phase out of coal, oil & gas. We need a strong outcome that builds on Glasgow & acknowledges the science. If we don't see that, we'll be calling #COP27 a failure" - @catabreu_

“We are demanding payment for climate debt on the basis of justice, human rights, and self determination.”

Happening now: "We as civil society are holding governments to account and demanding that phasing out ALL fossil fuels must be in the #COP27 cover text. Moving backwards from Glasgow would be a failure." - @mayboeve
"The fossil fuel industry is directly responsible for the destruction we are seeing around the world. At #COP27 the current cover text does not even mention fossil fuels. We want all fossil fuels to be mentioned, b/c they are all responsible for the climate crisis." - @harjeet11

Today at #COP27, we @priceofoil released a briefing peeling back the curtain on the oil & gas industry’s expansion plans: the new extraction approved in 2022 & what’s in the queue for 2023-2025ーunless govts put a stop to it ➡️ priceofoil.org/investing-in-d…
A thread 🧵
First, let’s look at the deep hole the fossil fuel industry has already drilled, dug, and fracked us into. 🔥Oil & gas fields already producing or approved PRIOR to 2022 would cause 490 GtCO2, if fully extracted. 🔥
That alone is enough to push the world past 1.5C warming.

"Developed countries should not just sit, wait and delay progress on
loss & damage. That’s an age-old strategy and we risk seeing inaction until 2024 - that's too late. The EU should play an active role to achieve a substantial outcome here at #COP27" - @RachelSimonSays
"Delaying or refusing to set up a loss and damage finance facility will not change the scientific fact that climate-driven extreme events and slow-onset disasters will continue to
accelerate causing increasing harm to the poorest and most marginalized people." - @RachelCleetus
