We are very excited to share our new paper published in Science today about the origin of pre-cancerous Barrett's esophagus (BE). Here is a story of how we found out that stomach cells can lead to cancer in the esophagus (1/9) @doctor_kno@johnlzhuang science.sciencemag.org/content/373/65…
The origin of BE has been under active debate and many theories have been proposed. Here, for the first time, we collected and compared all the candidate human tissues (including elusive esophageal submucosal glands - SMG) and performed comprehensive multi-omics phenotyping (2/9)

DNA from patients with Barrett’s oesophagus can show who is most likely at risk to develop oesophageal cancer up to *8 years* before cancer is diagnosed, improving detection and decreasing overdiagnosis. (2/8)
