Sigh. Okay, here goes…👇🏾
I’m sharing how I avoided all these side effects of chemotherapy during my treatments.
Caveat: This is all to help someone else and not to say the lady is the same as me.

I know people die from these side effects, so I’m sharing to educate people and hopefully save someone else from a nastier ordeal on what is already a nasty journey.
You understand? Deal?
Okay read on, to see how to avoid dark tongue and black nails etc during chemotherapy. 1. Black tongue and loss of appetite.
Picture is of my mouth care kit.
As soon as you know you will need chemotherapy?
✅ Go to the dentist and get your teeth cleaned.
✅Switch to a BABY toothbrush
✅Get gentle and non-alcoholic mouthwash. Use this after EVERY meal and snack
✅Use soft floss sticks. Nothing must remain in your mouth
✅Avoid as in RUN from extreme temperature in the mouth; no hot or cold drinks
✅Avoid and RUN from acidic fruits.
✅Avoid dry foods that can scratch your mouth and gums.
✅Watch food videos before meal times to whet your appetite and trick your body.
The thing is this: Chemo depletes all your white blood cells which help immunity and the soft tissues like your mouth are vulnerable and can allow germs that then allow bad bacteria turn into really terrible problems.
Anything abrasive and stressful to the mouth and gums should be avoided.
Yes, no blowjobs. Sorry 🤷🏽‍♀️Image

Power, Visibility and Exclusion: The #GIJC23 Example

Last week, over a thousand investigative journalists and representatives of journalism-funding bodies converged for the Global Investigative Journalism (@gijn) Conference.
Several Africans were denied visas, and some Nigerians were given visas with durations below the week-long event, costing these journalists money, time, and most importantly, professional visibility.
This 🧵trace's how the (in)actions of 5 groups results in lip-service rather than progress towards enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the Investigative journalism world.

The groups are: State-bodies, Journalism Conference or Event Organisers, Sponsors, Non-African Investigative Journalists and African Investigative Journalists.
Suggestions are made for each group to consider, going forward. Why am I writing this thread? Because power is an underlying factor in collaborative journalism, and I've spent the past four years researching what this power is, what creates power imbalances, and…

There are at least FOURTEEN clear scenarios of power that afflict African Journalists or put them at risk, when they enter collaborations.
What is happening with #GIJC23 is just one type of power at play—Professional Visibility.

Professional Visibility is one of the deadliest forms of power. Because it divides journalists by race, location, gender and socio-economic class. Those who lack it are prevented from realising their full professional potential, as it costs them money, their mental health and more. What happened in Sweden, at GIJC23 provides a full overview of this power-type.

Let us start with each actor, in order of appearance:
First up? State Bodies.

I had an aunt who hid her fertility issues &surgeries for fear of stigma. Even when one became botched (they sewed up a portion of her intestines during a uterine surgery).

When did she finally open up?
When she saw a picture of me eating Chinese takeaway after the same surgery. I shared the picture on Facebook and only my family members could view it. When she saw I had done the same surgery as she did, she contacted us. And she Andy uncle told me all she had been through.
We arranged for her corrective surgery in UK. All Scans sent to my doctors etc.

What stands out for me on Ekweremadu and Ekweremadu Harvesters Ltd:

1. Don’t think any court of law would go this hard on another country’s public official without a high standard of proof. 2. Bail was denied.
When a court remands the parents of a sick child, you know it must have been done to safeguard other children too. Listen to the @ARISEtv report on where they were arrested, for hints.

Journalism colleagues in Europe and the US:
You wouldn’t buy unethically sourced fish, nor patronise brands making clothes made in sweat factories.
But here you are patronising and amplifying the purveyors of UNETHICALLY-SOURCED AND PRODUCED journalism in Africa.
Repeatedly. Why? Repeatedly, many of you show no regard for honour and ethics when it’s African journalism. Recorded blackmailers, actual beneficiaries of stolen work/earnings, vendetta media..all platformed by you. We as citizens and residents know you won’t get away with such in Europe, US.

#HorribleBosses in Nigeria also thrive because the #IncompetentEmployees who are their favourites of the moment collude to frustrate reporting systems and set up those who try to speak up and change things.
While they are getting crumbs from their oppressor they see no wrong.🤓🤡 Some of you now screaming the most about #HorribleBosses on the TL have been their biggest conspirators. It’s never been a problem; until your privilege and gravy train was affected.
Or until TC started talking about it.
You ran from same bosses you still suck up to on the TL🤢🤮

I’m reliably informed that South Africa and Nigeria are more or less the two countries that are currently ferrying requests for all African nationalities hoping to evacuate from #Ukraine
Nigeria embassy staff won’t go on record but are still at an unnamed border receiving people. Details about Ghana’s moves are still unclear, and are said to be spearheaded by the country’s Swiss embassy, which didn’t pick the phone.
The main challenge is some African countries have no embassies and so Nigeria and South Africa have found themselves taking on the bulk.

So, Nigerians are being invited to a public hearing on the proposed altering of the Constitution along 17 points. This will happen 26-27 May, across designated zones nationwide.

As a journalist, where do you fit in? A few suggestions...
Yup, issa short #RuonaTips thread! 1. There are no addresses - you can start as a journalist by finding out, and publicising where exactly these hearings will hold and what the logistics are. You can also raise the alarm on anything that will disenfranchise the people from having their say -wheelchair access, etc.

On Onikoyi?
Y’all need to chill with the hot takes that have ZERO nuance or knowledge!
I lived off Banana Island Road in 2017 to 2018. It was a MASSIVE construction area. I wager it still is: the humans you are labelling were construction workers, handy-staff and the barbers... Hairdressers and food sellers mainly cater to them. You can literally see they make the shops against walls of undeveloped plots and empty houses for goodness’ sake. The best hairdresser Ibukun was on a temporary shed on a wide piece of land which they rented from the owner...

My mother travelled to Canada to see her Yorobo* grandchildren.

She is a frequent traveller but COVID has really meant things are hectic. I have been tracking her since yesterday.
Some tips, in case it helps others with older parents travelling alone.
*Yorobo = Yoruba+Urhobo 1. Pay/request for wheelchair access, whether they claim they are fit or say “I am not handicapped in Jesus’ name.”
2. Also lounges and concierge services, if you can.
This will really help them on the long flight and reduce their stress and chances of landing and being sick

"Should poorly informed citizens be allowed to vote?" and "Should anyone over 60 be allowed to run for office?" are all ugly flowers residing in one digusting bouquet of discrimination.

I smell Eau de Bullshit and Parfum de Buffoonery.

#StopTheDivisionOfNigerians People can only be deemed "poorly informed" when those making the judgment are certain 100% that all modes at communication (language based, socio-cultural & ethnoreligious-based) have been achieved & are sustained.
Even so, WHY should a human's civic right EVER be tied to such?

I've watched the Hausa-speaking debacle at the press conference. I shook my head at most of it.
Let me tell you a short story.
When I worked at this place in South Africa, there was always certain high profile news sources. You always had to go with two journalists. Why? Well... They could decide to speak Afrikaans. Or Xhosa. Or Sepedi.
Did they understand English?
Perfectly. Were they discussing national issues? 100% - with even GLOBAL consequences.
Why did we adapt? They were within their rights to prioritise official, national languages, not English

🇳🇬-n, Africa-focused journos,
Prices that the EU will pay for #CovidVaccines were revealed by a Belgian minister. These are traditionally deemed sensitive and commercial secrets.
Here's how to report it from an AFRICAN perspective.
Issa #RuonaTips thread.
theguardian.com/world/2020/dec… Away from the speculation of whether Eva De Bleeker wilfully revealed these vaccine prices, what concerns us is the vast range in pricing, and what this means for current negotiations being done by the AU.
Pricing is from $2.18 to $18; which is significant to Africa because...

AUGUST WILL ALWAYS COME BEFORE DECEMBER

Journalism, for all its bells and whistles, shiny business models, is fundamentally built on honour.
None of the big offices, fancy equipment will matter, if the humans are not humane. That it was only in December you saw a call made since August, only because I amplified its contents, shows you exactly the problem, that a call has to exist, since August.

Based on recent events, fellow 🇳🇬ns, try to be sensitive when tweeting/reporting that people died via suicide.
Doesn't matter if it's true or not - you must ensure ur mode doesn't intrude on privacy or grief. Add details of @MentallyAwareNG if real intention was to give support. Note to journos:
By media standards, the only justification for revealing suicide as a cause of death & associated details (esp when some family members haven't heard), is if in the public interest/awareness.
All media put helplines.
We now have @MentallyAwareNG so, NO EXCUSE.

@BBCCareers kindly furnish names and physical address of those who told @kikimordi, a freelancer that I was "asked to leave" the BBC?
We'll need to do this in an EU court of law, if LIES are peddled for damage control.
Note, I have recordings& emails.
Send to meyerruona@gmail.com ImageImage The response to seeking a non-repeat of unethical practices cannot and will never be to broadcast lies against my person.

Yoo a bitch is NEGATIVE for COVID and positive for balling!
😎 Image All of this was due to isolation.
When Herr Meyer returned from his biz trip, we maintained our usual precautions; no welcome hugs without him showering, washing all in his luggage & I actually did not kiss him full on.
Since COVID, we also sleep with windows open, winter or not.

Nigerian embassy in Germany terminates staff caught on camera for sexual misconduct.

As sent:
THE Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has terminated with immediate effect the contract of Mr Martins Adedeji Oni, a security officer at the mission. His dismissal follows an investigation into allegations of corruption and sexual misconduct.

Mr Oni was suspended from duty on 17 November after reports emerged that he had curried sexual favours in return for help with the renewal of a passport.
