We first profiled the upper respiratory tract of 58 COVID-19 patients admitted at @UZLeuven during the first pandemic wave. In total, we obtained 112 nasopharyngeal swabs from these patients that we used for DNA extraction and 16S sequencing. 2/

We explored the gut microbiota of nearly 900 individuals with BMI=[18-73]. While only 4% of lean/overweight participants were carriers of a previously described aberrant community-type (Bact2 enterotype), percentages sharply rose to 18% in obese participants. (2/7)
