We did a paper for journal club today (glossy journal). Good until Fig. 2 but then instead of mechanism, all RNA-seq/massively parallel stuff. Much easier to throw $$ and get guaranteed data, than figure out actual mechanism. Everyone was dazzled. Highly recommend approach. ..some argued that amazing -omics data "opened up new things".

But showing ONE thing clearly has been the centuries-old workhorse for Science. Now every paper needs to be "disruptive" and "break new ground". So here we are.
