The @TheCriminalBar Covid19 Safety has sourced the up to date #COVID19 safety assessments from Crown Courts across the land.
It is nothing short of scandalous that we are expected to spend our time (as self-employed members of the Bar) contacting individual courts seeking assessments.
It is outrageous that @HMCTSgovuk@CEOofHMCTS are not willing to provide access to a central database.

A different #spotlightsessions thread: Good afternoon, I’m defendant X, I used to work but I lost my job. I was arrested in early 2018 & RUI’d. I received a postal requisition & was told to attend court for my 1st appearance. I applied for Legal Aid, having lost my job, but 1/10
I was told I had to use my savings to pay for my lawyers or pay a huge contribution towards Legal Aid. I instructed lawyers privately & attended court. The CPS didn’t have my papers so my case was adjourned. I returned a few weeks later & my case was sent to the Crown 2/10

The LCJ's proposal to limit the right to #TrialByJury should send a cold chill down all of our spines, lawyers & non-lawyers alike. I could write a book full of reasons why this would be a huge mistake but I'll focus on one that is close to my heart. My example focuses on (1/12)
the #Guildford4 & the Maguire Family (#Maguire7). It is important to name the four: Paul Hill, Gerard Conlon, Paddy Armstrong & Carole Richardson. They were accused of setting an IRA bomb in Guildford that killed 5 innocent people & injured many more. All four were convicted (2)
