Our organization has always advocated against over-incarceration.

But what #COVID19 uncovered is: our country’s obsession with locking people up in jails and prisons as a first response to everything is NOT a solution--it actually endangers us all.
THREAD Mental health, addiction, homelessness; each requires commitments to $$$ and support of real, thoughtful solutions.

But for this thread, let's talk about the safe reduction of incarceration as an overdue imperative, and the necessary response to protect from #COVID19.

🔴What does "shelter in place" mean❓

Residents should stay home unless ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. Getting groceries, walking your 🐶, caring for relatives, picking up medication, etc., are all considered necessary. 🟢What is the self-isolation for, if people aren't sick❓

Self-isolation is for anyone who may have been exposed to the virus, but are not yet experiencing symptoms.

The recommended time is 2 weeks to see if someone develops the disease and to prevent the infection of others.
