Modern Genetics came into picture after Gregor Johann Mendel published his work on pea plants in 1866 but it got recognition in 1900, 16 yr after his death. His work remain unnoticed for 34 yrs. I feel sad that no one noticed Mendel's work during his lifetime.
He shall be really respected for his remarkable discovery because after that only whole concept of modern genetic engineering could evolve and many modern day problem could be solved.
