Is kidney biopsy the only way to diagnose immune checkpoint inhibitor-associated acute kidney injury (ICI-AKI)? Maybe not. In a new paper in @jclinicalinvest , @DavidLeaf9 and I report that PET-CT may have a role. A brief #tweetorial #Thread ().jci.org/articles/view/…
Kidney biopsies are not always practical, as patients with cancer may have contraindications, including a solitary kidney, need for anticoagulation. We NEED non-invasive biomarkers, since treatment for ICI-AKI requires steroids and potentially discontinuation of lifesaving ICIs

Do cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 4/6 inhibitors cause acute kidney injury (AKI)? #onconephrology#Thread
A little #tweetorial about CDK 4/6 inhibitor-associated AKI: what we know already, and what we found kireports.org/article/S2468-…
3 CDK 4/6 inhibitors (palbociclib, ribociclib, and abemaciclib)have been approved for HER2-negative metastatic breast cancers. CDK 4/6 inhibitors help overcome resistance to endocrine therapies by preventing cell-cycle progression and cancer growth (frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…).

What does a nephrologist need to know about immune checkpoint inhibitor-associated AKI (ICPi-AKI)?@DavidLeaf9#Thread
my first #tweetorial with help from @kdjhaveri jitc.bmj.com/content/9/10/e… (1/11)
Why does it matter? ICPi-AKI can lead to:
*Discontinuation of ICPi therapy
*Irreversible loss of kidney function
*Prolonged courses of immunosuppression (2/11)
