Achim Pross trying to kick things off at today's consultation with a sound check, and asking the tech industry representatives to take their seats. "We will not withdraw DSTs until you sit down," he jokes. Gael Perraud of the TFDE says it will soon (how soon?) issue another consultation document about the tax certainty aspects of amount A. Work continues on consultation documents about administration and removal of unilateral measures.

After a long hiatus (thanks, COVID!) #OECDTaxConference kicks off with introductory remarks from Rick Minor @USCIB Fabrizia Lapecorella of @MEF_GOV and Tim McDonald of @ProcterGamble. Watch for @TaxNotes coverage from me, @PaezWrites and @KiarraStrocko Lapecorella gives a broad overview of the state of the two pillar project but notes "beyond the two pillars, there is life," she says, to laughs to the audience. Wish I could be there in person, but I suppose a remote connection will do for today's Tax Symposium. Italian FM Daniele Franco: There's a lot of attention on the taxation of multinational companies and global minimum taxation, but tax policy to address climate change is just as important, as it's a major threat and concern for people around the world.

It's July, and things are heating up. Interesting discussions yesterday, including @PSaintAmans at the BE Parliament, who indicated that countries may be willing to wait for the outcome of the US election amid talks on global tax reform. From @TaxNotes: taxnotes.com/tax-notes-toda… Later, on a webcast organized by @B_Peyrol, Benjamin Angel of @EU_Taxud said he hoped countries with DST plans don't change their minds so that countries stay motivated to remain at the negotiating table.

And the (digital) beat goes on:

France and U.S. Reach Reported Detente Over Digital Tax, my latest for @TaxNotes. Lawmakers and tech groups cautiously welcomed news that France would delay collecting its controversial DST until the end of the year. taxnotes.com/tax-notes-toda… @TaxNotes The US, meanwhile is reportedly not going ahead with tariffs on French goods, but the WH hasn't said much to confirm, just that Macron and Trump spoke: "The two leaders agreed it is important to complete successful negotiations on the digital services tax..."
