Just a note to say that what happened at my #Georgia hospital last night was terrifying. When I’m getting calls to see if anyone at all can come help care for patients boarding in the ED because we have no beds anywhere…ICU full ...that all hospitals are on diversion. 1/n Hospitalizations for #COVID19 in #Georgia are now at nearly 4000. Heading for a peak higher than the worst of things in Jan/Feb. This comes as all staff are burned out from the last 18 months of this. We have lost over half our staff due to attrition/illness/burn out. 2/n

Last night my hospital (along with basically every other in metro Atlanta #Georgia went on total “diversion” - it means EMS can’t bring patients, we have no staff to accept them. It’s never happened before in my time there. That’s where we are. 1/n Friday I was supposed to be in charge of one of our now 5 #COVID19 overflow units. That’s 5 EXTRA units we have to staff, and we don’t have it. I was on the floor with the biggest patient load I’ve ever had. Yesterday I was in charge of CCU and had patients. I’m not a CCU RN. 2/n

I was supposed to take a couple days off from the hospital this week, but again I got that text from work yesterday morning: “we need help can you come” and I did. Which was good because I would have spent yesterday in the fetal position instead of helping people. 1/n July at the worst of #COVID19 in #Georgia we had three floors of isolation units we built, plus ICU. As we went into September we winnowed down to one floor and ICU. Yesterday that one floor filled up, so we’re expanding again. WE ARE DOING ALL THE WRONG THINGS. 2/n

You know why #GenX is tired? Our whole damn lives we’ve been watching Democrats come to power, create prosperity, try to advance social justice & human rights. Then the GOP comes to power and destroys it. We’ve spent our whole lives trying to claw back. And we’ve gotten nowhere. I’m 47. I’ve needed the protections of Roe in my lifetime. I needed the ACA, I need protections for LGBTQIIA Americans. It’s been in my grasp and taken away. While wages haven’t moved. I’ve retrained for jobs over and over. I’ve accumulated no wealth. The future is uncertain.
