With so many discussions lately about private vs public employees at Alberta hospitals doing the very necessary work of cleaning and sanitization, there has been a lot of speculation about wages. So, stepping fully outside our beer-hall, we decided to weigh in. 1/x
The thing about shifting previously public jobs to the private sector is that there is a risk to the quality of the services. Private companies are profit motivated so they look for savings to increase margins. This means that it is very likely that the same work will be done 2/x

Our thoughts, coherently laid out, on why we are tired of politicians targeting people who use CERB & other aid through the pandemic & how we think things could be improved: a thread. 1/x
So yesterday we got a bit ornery and made a broad tweet about the culture of workplaces disincentivizing workers to return while social programs like CERB and EI are available for pandemic relief. We don't often get ornery, but we are human, it happens. 2/x

We want you to mask up when indoors. Why? I'm happy to explain it to you.
This is Kel. Kel is one of our founding owners and our only fulltimer. She does everything at the brewery from maintenance to book keeping and is found behind our sales counter 6 days a week. 1/x
She is the only person who works between 90-100 hours at the brewery and, because we are still growing, often doesn't pull a salary for her labour. That's ok, she is living her dream! This isn't about payscale anyway. This is about what happens if Kel gets sick. 2/x

So. I know I'm gonna catch shit for wading in here but, folks we need to have a conversation about how freakishly reactionary some of us seem to be getting.
Can we just pump the breaks on this whole "you support such and such politics if so and so visits your business!!"

So today a clip got released of our pals up at Troubled Monk having a presser w/ the premier re: opening interprovincial trade for alcohol with other provinces.
This kind of announcement is a huge deal for our industry and as a board member of ASBA, Charlie is in the loop.

We have been watching broken hearted all that has gone on these past few days. We stand in solidarity with the protestors demanding to be heard, standing against authoritarianism, kneeling for peace.
Be kind. Love each other. #BlackLivesMatter
It has taken us a few days to find our words and for that delay we are sorry. In these times of unrest silence isn't strength, it is weakness, patience isn't wisdom, it is fear. We should have spoken sooner, and in future we vow to stand more readily for justice.

Alright friends, we need to have a talk. Beer fests are awesome. They allow for direct, face to face interactions with customers. We are so happy to attend festivals to promote our product and you will, more often than not, find Kel working the booth. -->
That being said, we need to lay down a couple of ground rules. 1. If you dont like a beer, it is okay to tell us so. We are happy to get you something else to try. 2. Snide comments about our competitors, not cool. We are FRIENDS in this industry. We like everyone. -->

Congratulations Alberta on another democratic process. Moving forward into the next 4 years will likely be an interesting time. We welcome back our MLA @SPhillipsAB and look forward to another 4 years working with you! #ABVOTE
We know that party politics create interesting discourse. Whether you are a fan of tonight's results or not, the citizenry still has a job to do: hold our elected officials accountable to their promises.
