Thank u for writing on our report @marcthiessen. A few facts you glossed over. Fact 1) in 2020, Trump-voting states had murder rates 40% > than Biden-voting states (11,521 murders/140,533,769 pop vs 10,946/189,418,128) rb.gy/rmscyz 1/
Fact 2) In general, blue states have more blue cities than red states. That's what makes them blue. So the excuse that it's just blue cities messing up red states rings a bit hollow. @marcthiessen 2/

Why do Red States have MUCH higher murder rates than Blue States, @marcthiessen? IMHO it is the following factors:
1) Gun ownership rates are far higher in red states than blue states. Often by a factor of 2 to 1. Nearly all murders are by guns.

As we debate whether to do fewer things better and permanently or more things temporarily with lots of sunsets in #BuildBackBetter, I offer the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and these three as a cautionary tale against temporary. 1/8
I was working for AWB author @SenSchumer there in the middle in 1994 when we passed it by a thread, 216-214. We had to make lots of compromises to win a majority, the last one and the worst one was putting in a 10-year sunset after which the AWB would expire. 2/8
