Tower Bridge turns 127 today! 🎊🎂🎈🎉

Tower Bridge was officially opened #onthisday in 1894 with a sumptuous ceremony. The Prince of Wales, later Edward VII, was present on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen Victoria.

🏖️ Did you know that between 1934 and 1971 there was a ‘beach’ on the shore of the Thames, just in front of Tower Bridge?

Tower Beach was officially opened on 23 July 1934. King George V declared it was to be used by the city’s children, and promised ‘free access for ever’. According to the @BBC, the beach was a ‘roaring success’ between 1934-39, when over 500,000 people ‘dipped their toes in the water of London’s very own seaside’. 🌊☀️
