Why did I write my #PPE thread?

Because I found myself screaming at the tv everytime some smug journalist came on it, pontificating & criticising about a subject, not just that they clearly had no idea about, but that they didn’t show any interest in finding out about either. Isn’t that what journalism is? To research & find out about a subject so that they can then ask searching questions from a position of knowledge & inform their audience?

Instead all we get is banal & vacuous questioning designed not to inform but to secure a scoop, or gotcha.

Next thread:

What’s the situation with #PPE in other countries?

Let’s start with the US.

Here’s a report from March showing how short the States is of PPE:

Following on from yesterday’s mega thread about #PPE, here’s a little bit more information regarding gloves.

According to a GOSH’s Gloves are off campaign the NHS last year used 1.4bn gloves.

1/? According to the government they have released 370 million PAIRS to the NHS.

Rubber gloves are usually sold in singles so if we assume gov info is correct then that’s 740 million gloves.

Or approximately 50% of NHS annual usage.

I’m fed up of reading drivel about PPE so thought I’d do a thread with my two cents.

For information, I worked in the PPE for many years (admittedly over 15 years ago) today work with a number of importers of safety products getting their products online.
1? A bit of background - since the 60’s & 70’s PPE has been manufactured abroad. Initially this was done through Hong Kong but then moved to China after 1997.

The main manufacturing areas for disposable gloves is Malaysia & PPE generally, China.
