Story of Upakosala from Chandogya Upanishad (Verse 4.10 onwards).
Chandogya Upanishad is one of the ten principal upanishads. Along with Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, Chandogya Upanishad is considered to stand above other Upanishads in stature and majesty.

Upakosala studied under Satyakama Jabala for 12 years in his gurukula. After 12 years, Satyakama allowed all students except Upakosala, to depart. It was important for a student to realize the supreme knowledge before entering the Grihastha ashrama (householder).
