Charles: "[..] I think it has been similar since the beginning of the season as every single race we are going from one [tyre] compound to the other and we never know what is going to happen on a new compound so it is always an unknown how the car is going to react."

#MiamiGP Charles: "This is just very difficult as a driver to gain the confidence and adapt your driving because you go from one set to the other and the car is completely in a different window."

#AMuS reports that apparently the ground clearance of the RB19 is at least 10 millimetres below everyone else [based on what Mercedes observed]. And despite that, still no bouncing issues.

Toto says their floor would break if they would do the same.

auto-motor-und-sport.de/formel-1/red-b… #AMuS Driving with a lower ride height makes you generate a lot of downforce and in Red Bull's case, it‘s especially evident in the acceleration phases.

Toto Wolff: "The traction [of the RB19] is breathtaking."

#Gazzetta has reported some rumors about the power units for the upcoming season.
The power units are frozen, but reliability can still be improved.

"For Ferrari 30hp increase, Mercedes at 16hp, Red Bull at 10hp."

Article 🇮🇹: gazzetta.it/Formula-1/17-0…

A thread: #Gazzetta FERRARI: The 066/7 PU (Ferrari) had shown serious reliability problems last year, especially at the turbocharger & MGU-H level, problems that were apparently induced by a not always effective functioning of the TJI (Turbulent Jet Ignition) system.

#AMuS There is reportedly disagreement between the FIA and Red Bull on several points [minor budget cap breach]. FIA interprets some of the items cited differently, they include them in the budget cap & Red Bull didn‘t.

Article by #AMuS : auto-motor-und-sport.de/formel-1/fia-b… #AMuS One of talking points are said to be salaries in case of illness. Red Bull is said to have suspended them, thus not included them in the budget cap.
The FIA is including them.

#AMuS Paddock rumors say that already in the first year (2021) of the budget cap, two teams exceeded the $147.4 million limit. One of them to a considerable extent. The rumour in the paddock is that the two teams are Red Bull and Aston Martin. #AMuS Mercedes & Ferrari are told that an extra 5 million dollars in development can be the equivalent of up to half a second on the track. Those who are above the 5 million will have to reckon with harsher penalties. Possibly a points deduction and demotion in the championship.

#AMuS reports that the FIA is taking the porpoising concerns with the new cars serious. Rumors in the paddock say the the FIA wants to launch an investigation to get to the bottom of the matter. The FIA is seeking talks with the drivers & the technical directors. #AMuS The FIA is said to want to get a comprehensive picture, consult specialists and gather data from other racing series. For example, from rallying, where the drivers don't drive on perfectly flat tracks either, but where the speeds are lower.

A little summary from the #AMuS episode after Imola:

• In Melbourne, Ferrari had the advantage that they still had since the beginning of the season.
With the Imola upgrade + weight reduction of the RB18, Schmidt believes that Red Bull has a slight advantage now. • Binotto told Schmidt that Ferrari also need to fix the issue with the bouncing. Binotto said that every change before completely understanding the issue (even though it doesn’t cost Ferrari too much lap time) could go in the wrong direction.

Do you think you had the third fastest car here?

Lando: "If I wanna be like George I'd say I had like the 7th fastest car."
Max: "You should say it‘s all the driver mate."
Lando: "It is."
Max: "I think you had the worst car of the field."
Lando: "I think we are 9th or 10th."

😅 Image Lando: "My driving this weekend has been pretty amazing."

Max: "I agree."

Lando: "He agrees."

Max: "This will be a nice headline (laughs)."

Newey to #AMuS: "The Ferrari has the best driveability out of slow corners. From the engine and the car!"

But Ferrari were not able to exploit exactly this strength in the final stages of the sprint race today.

#ImolaGP #AMuS Binotto: "We expected the graining, but not this early. The balance of our car was not perfect today. With only one practice session in the rain, in preparation for a dry race, you can be off the mark."

A little summary from the #AMuS episode after Melbourne:

• RB hopes the Imola upgrade is giving them a similar step forward like the one during the Bahrain test [back then the upgrade fixed their porpoising issue completely, Mercedes still wondering how that was possible] • Meanwhile Ferrari thinks there is more potential in the base car before bringing a big upgrade [similar to Alpine, who also made a step forward by simply understanding their car]

• Binotto believes that Imola is the wrong track to bring a big upgrade due to the sprint race.

#Corriere In Maranello, they have a well-defined plan for upgrades. They tested a new diffuser in Australia to improve aerodynamic efficiency. It could already be used in Imola or later in Barcelona.

#F1 #Corriere The issue with the bouncing / porpoising is considered serious at Ferrari and the next interventions [upgrades] will focus on the floor area to limit it, starting from Imola.

Binotto: "Melbourne is not an easy track to find the balance between the slow and fast corners. We focused on protecting the rear tyres first and realised already on Friday that with the mediums the front left tyre starts to suffer from graining. We worked on that."

#AusGP #AMuS Binotto: "Charles also did a good job with tyre management."

Charles: "Ferrari has given me a wonderful car. It's a dream to drive. We had no problem with graining and were able to use them optimally from the first to the last lap."

Summary of the latest #AMuS episode after Bahrain:

• full praise for Charles [Schmidt said he drove like a champion]

• Ferrari is the team that understand its car the best (they seem to have the best overall package at the moment, good downforce level + speed) • Ferrari has the best PU now (it could also be that Shell did a massive job with the E10 fuel)

• AMuS heard from sources at the Mercedes customer teams that the Mercedes PU is struggling, but maybe those teams think that because it‘s not superior anymore & is on equal terms.

. @GiulyDuchessa reports interesting things regarding Ferrari (a thread):

• Ferrari feels the new PU is a big step forward

• New ICE has a completely different use of the combustion mixture (talks of an innovative oil management) + use of new composite materials inside the PU • The E10 fuel is considered to cost 80hp in the adapted 2021 PU version.
(A source close to Honda said that it is "rather enviable if Ferrari had managed to contain the deficit to just 20hp, as Binotto hinted in previous interviews")

#AMuS There are many meetings about the future engines in F1 [2025], but not much progress is achieved. It is not even clear yet whether the new engines will have four or six cylinders. There are two sides: Mercedes and Renault represent one, Ferrari and Red Bull the other..

#F1 #AMuS Mercedes is in favour of retaining the V6 engine. They say it's due to cost reasons. Every new construction costs more money. They would also like to keep the MGU-H as a technology, but would be ready for a compromise in that area.

Aston Martin has set themselves a target of 3-5 years to fight for the title. Will you still be in the team by then? Do you think you still have what it takes to win another world title?

Vettel: "I think so. I am not too old yet. And I don't think it's related to age anyway." Vettel: "It's more a question of the car and the team. F1 has always been like that, as far back as I can remember. In the last few years, you had to be in a Mercedes to win the title. I'm not telling you anything new."

Aston executives have often repeated that you seem to have lost your "mojo" at Ferrari. Do you think you have already regained it back?

Vettel : "The term "mojo" does not have a meaning in German. Maybe that's the best way for me to answer that question (laughs)."

#AUTOhebdo Vettel: "It's no secret that I wasn't the happiest man last year. I can't wait for the new season to start. I am surrounded by a group of very enthusiastic people. They are driven by a great state of mind."
