#AMuS Paddock rumors say that already in the first year (2021) of the budget cap, two teams exceeded the $147.4 million limit. One of them to a considerable extent. The rumour in the paddock is that the two teams are Red Bull and Aston Martin. #AMuS Mercedes & Ferrari are told that an extra 5 million dollars in development can be the equivalent of up to half a second on the track. Those who are above the 5 million will have to reckon with harsher penalties. Possibly a points deduction and demotion in the championship.

#AMuS reports that the FIA is taking the porpoising concerns with the new cars serious. Rumors in the paddock say the the FIA wants to launch an investigation to get to the bottom of the matter. The FIA is seeking talks with the drivers & the technical directors. #AMuS The FIA is said to want to get a comprehensive picture, consult specialists and gather data from other racing series. For example, from rallying, where the drivers don't drive on perfectly flat tracks either, but where the speeds are lower.

Binotto said that every change before completely understanding the issue (even though it doesn’t cost Ferrari too much lap time) could go in the wrong direction.

• Binotto believes that Imola is the wrong track to bring a big upgrade due to the sprint race.

#Corriere In Maranello, they have a well-defined plan for upgrades. They tested a new diffuser in Australia to improve aerodynamic efficiency. It could already be used in Imola or later in Barcelona.

• AMuS heard from sources at the Mercedes customer teams that the Mercedes PU is struggling, but maybe those teams think that because it‘s not superior anymore & is on equal terms.

• Ferrari feels the new PU is a big step forward

• New ICE has a completely different use of the combustion mixture (talks of an innovative oil management) + use of new composite materials inside the PU • The E10 fuel is considered to cost 80hp in the adapted 2021 PU version.
(A source close to Honda said that it is "rather enviable if Ferrari had managed to contain the deficit to just 20hp, as Binotto hinted in previous interviews")

#F1 #AMuS Mercedes is in favour of retaining the V6 engine. They say it's due to cost reasons. Every new construction costs more money. They would also like to keep the MGU-H as a technology, but would be ready for a compromise in that area.
