In just 2.5 hours, the @realDonaldTrump campaign filled a 40 page response to NV Supreme Court. Pretty incredible.

Highlights in the thread. Based on evidence obtained from DMV, Trump campaign says they identified almost 4K immigrant voters.

I’m guessing these are people who registered to vote while using a green card for identification.

That would be a massive scandal.

Looks like the NV Supreme Court is going to rule against Trump tonight.

Not surprised given their reputation for avoiding anything controversial. Don’t think a court loss means there’s no proof of voter fraud. The District Court didn’t engage with the names submitted by Trump campaign of double dead and out of state voters. It cited an “expert” who studied previous Nevada elections, but not the 2020 general.

Three days ago, King @GovSisolak hyperventilated that @realDonaldTrump's rallies doomed Nevada to a deadly increase in coronavirus cases. Now, Sisolak is suggesting that he wants to relax restrictions on ... gatherings. Is His Majesty aware that we were here earlier this week? That we remember what he said on Sunday?

Relaxing restrictions would obviously be a good thing, but it's a stunning shift for 3 days ago.

Yesterday, @RalstonReports publicly attacked, mocked and said he muted @OyVegas, a columnist for the Indy, which Jon runs. What a great editor. ImageImageImage .@OyVegas committed the most heinous thought crime of all. He suggested that something I wrote wasn’t completely wrong (although Dayvid was quick to point out what he disagreed with). By the logic of SCR1, the state Senate is voting to dismantle @NVSenateDems and @cceanv.

A thread 🧵🧵 It's a resolution against systemic racism, which, as is often the case, isn't defined in the text.

Systemic racism is said to "create generational poverty" and "disproportionally affect people of color."

Last night, @GovSisolak said he's giving his all "to continue to walk this tightrope between your personal health and your financial sustainability."

This is his biggest mistake. There's not a one-size-fits-all answer. Everyone values those things differently. Image That's why -- unless hospitals are on the verge of being overwhelmed -- people should be free to make those decisions for themselves.

A lot of space in between these 2 responses to #nvleg's elections bill, which is where I'm going to remain.

2 big problems with this terrible bill:
1. It gives paid political operatives access to ballots.
2. All VBM is more susceptible to fraud than voting in person. ImageImage What's funny is that if @realDonaldTrump (and his campaign) were as dishonest as Reid says, Trump would love this bill, because it allows non-election officials access to ballots.

Two years ago, I wrote this about CCSD's search for a new leader: "The job description says 'superintendent,' but the district will really be hiring another fall guy."

Today, @cceanv writes that @SuptJaraCCSD is the "fall guy" in a political spat. ImageImage The fundamental problem isn't Jara, although he's made plenty of mistakes (the biggest of which was kowtowing to CCEA and agreeing to a contract the district couldn't afford). The problem is that no superintendent has the authority he needs to be effective.

I'm going to give @GovSisolak credit here. First, the hospital situation is concerning.

By only re-imposing restrictions on bars in certain counties, he's focused on the highest risk activity instead of a complete return to Phase 1. Now, I hope he gives that time to work and that he avoids imposing restrictions on rural counties with low case counts.

But if he does that, this is a measured, balanced response to a concerning situation. Good for him.

.@GovSisolak says budget hole is down to $1.2 billion. Has released a preview of his proposals. Will thread my thoughts here. Image Good graphic showing extent of the financial devastation caused by coronavirus and @GovSisolak's prolonged shutdown order. Image

Context for tonight's coronavirus presser by @GovSisolak. Percentage of positive tests is up quite a bit. That's concerning, but not unexpected. Good news is that hospitalizations and deaths are up only slightly. ImageImageImage There's going to be a lag between the most recent upswing of cases and hospitalizations/deaths. But the increase started over 2 weeks ago. The hospitalization/deaths number haven't shown a proportional increase.

.@AaronDFordNV also took exception with me pointing out his hypocrisy for threatening to enforce @GovSisolak's Phase 2 limits on @CCLoneMountain (which wanted to open at 30% w/ social distancing) while lauding protesters who violated limits on group size and social distancing 1/X Now the easy solution is to reopen churches at 50%. Given the social unrest we're seeing in Nevada, reopening places of worship would be an especially good idea. But that wasn't discussed 2/

No, I'm not interested in making excuses for the cop who put his knee on a man's neck for several minutes.
Don't allow him to avoid responsibility by blaming you, me or someone who owned a slave 200 years ago. The deeper problem here is the implication that America is forever defined by her past sins. Yes, slavery was evil. So was (and is) racism. But hundreds of thousands of Americans died fighting in the Civil War. Jim Crow laws are illegal. Obama was elected president.

.@GovSisolak says that following businesses will be allowed with social distancing: Restaurants can open for dine-in (face coverings for employees), 50% capacity, not including bar (which are closed), tables 6 feet apart. [more] Barbershops, hair salons can reopen too. Use every other chair or have partitions between chairs. No walk-ins. Appointments only. Staff must wear face coverings.

.@GovSisolak moves onto Phase 1. Strict social distancing guidelines will stay in place. People infected with virus will spread it to others without social distance. Folks should stay home, wear masks, avoid travel. Vulnerable populations must remain home. No gatherings over 10. more - non-essential businesses may reopen with restrictions. Service providers and customers should wear face masks. Will consider gradual reopening of restaurants, hair salons.
Can't open bars and night clubs, malls, large in-person places of worship.

Key quote from @GovSisolak: "The virus still remains and will remain until doctors and medical experts find an approved treatment and develop a vaccine."

That leaves 2 options: 1) Stay locked down for 12-18 months 2) The virus comes back whenever the economy reopens. Option 1 should be unacceptable. It'd be the complete destruction of Nevada as we know it. That leaves Option 2. And if the virus is coming back at some point, why delay the inevitable at the cost of hundreds of thousands of jobs?

Anyone else old enough to remember when the point of shutting down businesses, quarantines and social distancing was to flatten the curve, not completely stop the spread of #coronavirus? THREAD Image Nevada has flattened the curve. Our hospital system isn't overrun. Image

Actually, @GovSisolak recommended cutting 42 -- not the 39 I previously reported -- positions from Nevada's Unemployment Program. Image Wait, there's more. @GovSisolak also wanted to transfer 7 additional positions from UI program. He proposed reducing UI program by 49 FTEs. Image

My thoughts on @GovSisolak’s church ban. It’s a mistake, most obviously because it’s unnecessary. Most places of worship have closed voluntarily. Why potentially violate the First Amendment for a handful of outliers, especially when construction continues at Allegiant Stadium? I believe @GovSisolak when he says this was a hard decision, but personal anguish isn’t a valid rationale.

CONFIRMED: Nevada Department of Corrections ordered hydroxychloroquine after @GovSisolak banned non-hospital doctors from prescribing it. This statement is from NDOC. Thread (1/X) NDOC ordered the drug for those currently taking it and for “potential future use for those who demonstrate a medical need.” That’s stockpiling the drug at the same time @GovSisolak said he had to prohibit non-hospital doctors from prescribing, because of a shortage. I can't get infuriated at @mayoroflasvegas for wanting a 1-2 week shutdown instead of the 30 day one ordered by @GovSisolak. Sisolak's decision was reasonable, but balancing public health vs economic considerations isn't clear cut (1/x)

reviewjournal.com/news/politics-… when so little is known about the #coronavirus. Could be that widespread testing allows infected folks to quarantine and others to get back to work while being more observant of hygiene, social distancing. Could be that inadequate data is overstating the death rate. (2/x)
