I've been asked a few times recently, why I've dialled back from discussing 40K lore so much.

The answer's both complex and brutally simple. And I don't mean to sound negative here, but I sort of... grew up.

That's at once unintentionally insulting and completely accurate. One of the tiring elements of talking about 40K lore is that some folks will genuinely believe you're not actually trying to help (after you ask & recheck a point with The Authorities) but that you're trying to abuse your position to enshrine and canonise your unfounded opinion.

CW: Suicide.

Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay

Last summer, because of a thrilling lifelong clash of anxiety, depression, and borderline personality disorder, I decided to kill myself.

I fantasised about it, planned it, and tried to do it. I didn't want to die, exactly. I just didn't want to be alive any more. I couldn't deal with the way my head worked. I was so, so tired of it.

Obviously I didn't quite, uh... pull the trigger, so to speak. I was out there, in a field, and then... stopped. Came home, seeing grey.

Someone at a convention once said to me:

"Western Europeans see the Imperium as an unnecessary evil and that's the tragedy & satire of the setting. Russians see the Imperium as a necessary evil to be embraced. And Americans see the Imperium as the good guys."

I don't think that's true - at least not along those national lines and in such stark terms.

And I also think there's a very strong caseto be made where all three are true and false to varying degrees, all at once.

Your focus determines your reality, and all that.
