@PensHen87 @CTVLethbridge There are a few things going on. First, during migration, these usually "solitary" bats form flocks & migrate together. And they often are not echolocating during their migratory flight (so not listening for turbines). 1/n @PensHen87 @CTVLethbridge Second, the tips of the turbines are moving very fast! Even at low speeds they can be moving up to 240km/hr. At those speeds, even echolocating bats would not be able to detect the rotors. (so can't detect the rotors). 2/n

Well, it's official from COSEWIC. The three migratory bats are considered "endangered" in Canada. @CalgaryResponse Bat houses are helpful in areas where few roosting opportunities exist (i.e., no old trees) esp in combination with good foraging habitat (wetlands, riparian or natural areas). @CalgaryResponse Joining our #citizenscience project which involves reporting bat roosts, counting bats as they exit and sending us samples of bat guano will help us monitor populations and possibly protect significant colonies.
