In 2021 I spent a lot of time thinking about the epistemology of data analysis in the social sciences. How do we use data to produce valid knowledge about human affairs? There is a lot I (still?) don't know, but here are a few things I am bringing into the new year.

THREAD 1/ Data present as objective, but they are not. Even in the hard sciences, they are generated through measurement, and measurement is contextual. For example, temperature was initially understood as environmental conditions (fire) needed to act on objects (iron). 2/

So, @NGIForward and @ladyniasan are organizing a a gathering to think about Internet technology, and what would need to happen for it to be a harmonious part of a sustainable world. Let me tell you why this is amazing, and what #sciencefiction has to do with it.
