At @LargerUsNetwork, we've been thinking a lot about climate campaigning.

And wondering:

What if there was a massive national push from campaigning orgs and movements to equip people to have millions of climate conversations ahead of the next election & beyond?

Here's why. Ramping up UK climate action is urgent.

To do that, we need to grow both *broader* and *deeper* public demand for climate action.

The kind that will make climate a top 3 issue - and keep it there.

OK, time for the last of this series of threads about the 5 questions for change-makers that we look at in "Building a larger us", our new guide (larger.us/guide).

This time: (Here's the thread from last time, ICYMI: )

So last week we launched our new guide to Building a Larger Us (larger.us/guide), which is all about five big questions for change-makers.

So what ARE these questions? Here's a thread on the first of them: Image So. Belonging. Why does it matter for change-makers?

In a nutshell: because we're hardwired to see ourselves as part of groups...

...and when we feel lonely or disconnected instead, it's a *massive deal*.

How has the interaction between psychology and politics helped to manufacture Russian support for Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine? And is there anything anyone can do about it?

A 🧵on Putin and the psychology of grievance. Here at @LargerUsNetwork, we think a lot about them-and-us dynamics – dynamics which Putin appears to have had considerable success in stoking with regard to his war in Ukraine.

Lots of food for thought in this thread by @GeorgeMonbiot, who’s rebutting the kind of arguments I was making on Weds (link below) on the need to build a broad climate movement across the political spectrum.
I'm a big fan of George's work. I agree with a lot of what he says!

✅ Climate = biggest threat we face
✅ Movements = what drive transformational change
✅ Climate justice = *fundamental*

And I really welcome his challenge. These are *crucial* Qs. We have to get this right.

V interesting from @GeorgeMonbiot, who’s rebutting the kind of arguments I was making yesterday (link below) on the need to build a broad climate movement across the political spectrum.

Will post a proper reply as soon as I can but retweeting for now - these are crucial Qs! Here’s a link to the thread I posted yesterday - it also includes links to what some of the ‘prominent people’ George refers to have said, eg @GreenRupertRead

So with #COP26 done and 1.5 degrees on life support, what kind of climate activism do we need from here on out?

For some leading activists, the answer seems to be: more of the same. More shouting, more civil disobedience, more marches in the streets.

And perhaps they’re right. But it’s also worth asking: might we need a different kind of climate movement at this point?

I’ve been thinking about that since a recent blog post on the risks of polarising public opinion on climate change – and others have been chewing on it too.

Climate activists are increasingly unsure whether political consensus on their issue is what they want or need.

Are they right?

Quick thread distilling a blog post I did on this earlier this week... If the politics of climate change end up polarised, is that so bad?

No – it’s disastrous. Or so I’ve long thought.

Look at the US, where climate is even more polarised than abortion: 25 years of flip flopping between Dem and Rep administrations.
