This tweet inspired a lot of reactions online. Nairaos ko na ang ilang deadlines (woot) so I'll share additional thoughts on an important topic. Ang thread na ito ay pinamagatang: "makatarungan ang panghangad ng maayos na public transportation." Lezgaw!

Una, maraming nakarelate. Matagal nang pasakit ang pag commute sa Metro Manila. Our public transportation system is...bad. Alam ito ng sinumang sumasakay ng tren, bus, jeep, atbp. The problem is so self-evident it doesn't require further elaboration. Marami na ring pagaaral dito.

Reports on @24OrasGMA tonight make the following clear: 1. Importing, distributing, and administering unauthorized drugs is illegal. 2. Donated/gifted vaccines still have to go through the DOH. Despite good intentions, that makes the innocultion of PSG personnel unlawful, right? Malakanyang has not revealed where the unauthorized vaccines came from. Apparently, nobody knows, or nobody cares to ask. More likely, they just don’t want to disclose that information. But if an unlawful act was committed, an investigation should take place.

Proponents and supporters of the Anti-Terror Bill say "if you're not a terrorist, you have nothing to fear." A recent report on the Philippines by the UN Human Rights Office shows why this is a flimsy argument. In two words: persistent impunity. 1/6 The political climate & track record of law enforcement is a major reason why many are fearful. OHCHR: "The vilification of dissent and attacks against perceived critics are being increasingly institutionalized and normalized in ways that will be very difficult to reverse.” 2/6

A serious situation is unfolding at the National Center for Medical Health in Mandaluyong. As of April 5, hospital admin has confirmed that 34 have tested positive for COVID at the hospital, a whopping 28 of them healthcare workers. 3 patients have already died. 279 NCMH employees are PUIs, while 181 are PUMs. 50 psychiatrists are in quarantine (out of 83), while 30% of nursing staff are now unable to report to work. They say the main problem is the lack of PPEs. Admin says they only have 100 PPEs left. They need 250 pieces per day.

As of 5pm today, DOH confirms info on their tracking website that 2147 individuals have been tested for #COVID19, says figure is expected to rise. Dr. @EdselSalvana meanwhile says the TOTAL number of tests done is 11466 (not individuals).

What accounts for the discrepancy is unclear. Hindi lang ba updated ang numero ng DOH? (Bakit?) Is each individual tested an average of 5 times?

Based on DOH data, we are testing around 200 patients a day for COVID19, a total of 2147 as of March 26. Meanwhile, our neighbors have tested in greater numbers: Vietnam 30548, Thailand 10343, Malaysia 21855, Singapore 39000. These are countries with smaller populations than us. Before anyone says these are richer countries than the Philippines, we have a higher GDP per capita than Vietnam (2017 data), which has done 14 times (!) more tests than us. This is not about resources but the sound and timely allocation of those resources.

COVID-19 is now officially a pandemic. Here are some important things to remember.

On an individual level, minimize the risk of getting sick:
1. Wash your hands with soap & water properly and frequently.
2. If that’s unavailable, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. 3. Practice coughing etiquette. Use a disposable tissue or cough/sneeze into your elbow rather than hand.
4. Try to boost your immune system. Get enough rest.
