Ha ha ha ha ha. 🤣
Seriously though, I have a plan for that. 1. End all federal drug enforcement. This should indeed abolishing the DEA. Redirect resources into harm reduction, drug treatment, and targeted economic development projects.

Has anyone seen all the breathless news coverage of the epidemic of NYPD officers arrested so far this year? No? Hmm? I wonder why there is so little coverage of the many cases below? audacy.com/1010wins/news/…

This is a really terrible take from @nytopinion. This piece is weak in it's analysis of Vollmer and completely misunderstands and misrepresents Abolition. Thread.
nytimes.com/2021/06/03/opi… While the piece points out that Vollmer's professionalization of policing was rooted in racism and militarism, it fails to adequately discuss how the entire professionalization effort was directly tied to US imperialism as @jgo34 pionts out: journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/70…

I join with @Mvmnt4BlkLives in opposing the Justice in Policing Act. I call on my Rep. @RepYvetteClarke to do the same. apnews.com/article/moveme… As @dereckapurnell points out, these "reforms" would not have saved George Floyd's life and do nothing to address the underlying causes of abusive policing. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

I'm not sure why @jacobinmag is so invested in erasing the Movement for Black Lives, with non-sense like this.

A thread.

1) I agree that we want a politics of redistribution rather than anti-discrimination and that only moving money around in a city budget by itself is insufficient. But that isn't what the movement is calling for. It's a gross misrepresentation.

This is an example of some really terrible reporting by @MartinKaste at @NPR, in which the Defund Police movement is completely erased and replaced by pro-police #copaganda. iowapublicradio.org/2020-12-09/pol… @NPRCrimJustice Just the title betrays a false choice at the center of the maligning of the movement. People want safety through real investments in community resources, not more police or police reform. But this perspective never makes it into the piece.
