To be a great technical SEO without feeling imposter syndrome, it’s not enough just to know the basics.

Canonicals…
Redirects…
Indexing…

Don’t get me wrong: these things ARE important. But to be honest, they are pretty easy to pick up when you start. What’s hard to pick up is how all these technical SEO components are connected. What’s the WHY behind choosing this or that component to use in your unique situation (e.g. a canonical vs a redirect)?

“There are a few things that have been missed during the migration process by the dev team. And now I’m as an SEO trying to get the dev to implement the amendments. But I can’t get to the dev as they’re not on the calls."

Here’s the thing:

Your page can look as if it works. But it still can return a 404 HTTP status code. This question came up during a recent Q&A session for my Tech SEO Pro students

One of the students shared a website where all pages looked normal and usable: all content was in place.

But the problem was - each page returned a 404 HTTP status code.

This past week was the most stressful week of my life.

So many things were at stake.

Uncertainty.

Being let down.

I could hardly live and breathe because of the tightness in my stomach and chest caused by stress.

And I created 7 new lessons for my Tech SEO Pro course.

Doing something familiar, something I'm really good at, gave me sanity.

Plus, I know my students are eagerly waiting for the new lessons so I couldn't let them down!

What’s the best way for Google to make website owners act on something?

Say that it’s a ranking factor.

Then it becomes “a real thing” as SEOs get concerned about it, write posts, do webinars, talk to clients and then push through to implement the “new rules”. It happened with security when HTTPs became a ranking factor.

It happened with page speed when Google introduced Core Web Vitals.

It’s happening now with the helpful content update.

I LOVE that at least now it’s a huge and important topic.

This SEO topic is too important to ignore.

Links 🔗 vs. buttons ▶️

Many don’t think there’s an issue with those… before they face one.

I’ll explain it in a short 🧵 First, why is it important?

From a UX perspective, links and buttons are very different.

Links point from one page to another.

They help with internal linking and help to navigate through a website.

Since 2019, I’ve built 2 businesses from 0 to 6 multiple figures.

I had burnout. I hired and fired people.

And here are my 12 lessons. A 🧵 1. Learn who you are.

In the beginning, it’s hard to focus on things that matter to you and serve you.

Instead, you might find yourself pulled in different directions which can cause burnout.

The faster you’ll learn who you are, the easier it is to follow your path.

Many SEOs won’t like it but here's my opinion:

You don’t need to have coding skills to be a technical SEO.

Technical SEOs are NOT REQUIRED TO CODE.

Does having a tech background help in SEO?

Yes.

Is it absolutely required?

No. Yet I see more and more posts like:

“You’re not a real tech SEO if you’re not a developer”

The reasoning behind this is usually around tech #SEO including the knowledge of how websites are built, how browsers load pages, etc.
