1/ Between 2021–2024, Germany ran one of the most comprehensive #UBI pilots to date.

122 people received €1,200/month for 3 years. No strings attached. A control group of 1,380 got nothing.

So… what happened? 🧵👇 2/ This was led by the non-profit @MeinBGE and the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin).

It wasn’t about whether UBI “works”—we already know people use it on essentials. It was about how it affects behaviour, health & wellbeing.

This is a huge milestone in evidence-based support for homeless families. $9,500 direct cash might sound bold—but it’s just what Illinois pays for 3 months in a shelter. Now we get to see what happens when families are trusted with that money instead.👇 1/- In June 2024, @GiveDirectly gave $9,500 each to 315 homeless families in Chicago—the largest cash transfer ever to unhoused Americans. Why? To test if direct cash can help families get housed faster.
