The camp was a major logistic base for that sector & housed ~140 people. At that time elements of 6th Northern Light Infantry of #Pakistan 2/n) was stationed there. The camp had a major road which connected to Goma, it had helipads, quite a few buildings to support a major logistics base and nearby gun placements too.. it was on the Gayari river and was considered safe..
