Why don't we just put our powerlines underground?

1. It would cost more than $2.5million per km (according to AusGrid) which works out to be nearly DOUBLE last year's ENTIRE state budget

That's 15 times more than having lines above ground and would take 40 YEARS #springst 2. It's much harder to access for repairs.

Auckland has underground powerlines and it had a power outage that lasted 5 WEEKS, with an inquiry blaming how hard it was to find and fix faults on the cables being underground
