#INC3 negotiations: Some countries believe that the global #PlasticsTreaty shouldn’t include trade provisions citing WTO Rules & existing multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs).

But INCLUSION of TRADE PROVISIONS is ESSENTIAL in this treaty to end plastic pollution.

🧵👇 🚩Primary forms of plastics, plastics products & chemicals of concern are largely traded internationally & should comply with provisions on international legally binding agreements like #PlasticsTreaty. Without trade provisions, the treaty could be WEAK & not without LOOPHOLES ❌

Governments must adhere to their responsibilities outlined in international treaties, including multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs).

The #PlasticsTreaty’s success will depend on the design of implementation, which include NIPs, NAPs, or NDCs.
