Next step in this policy framework is a national legislation to ban crude oil exports within three years and ensuring every new OML renewal is tied to refining and petrochemical requirement. Nigeria has no business exporting crude. The lost value is too enormous We need to stop short term thinking to manage an economy with escalating population. We had 120 million people last time we reach 1.8 million barrels, unless you double your export accordingly to match your 220 million population then any increase in production means zero impact

I think at some point it needs to be pointed out that discriminately setting the amount citizens can withdraw from a bank upon demand is technically illegal as it is my money & the essence of currency is that I can ask for it as I demand. You can charge a fee but not refuse me. If the @cenbank is so incompetent in providing new currencies it should say and do what other central banks do when swapping notes: progressive elaboration. It is possible to exchange notes unannounced the way other free economies do instead of inducing economic panic

The Nigerian Police urgently needs to be devolved. The police council as it is constituted today can effectively do it under a transition arrangement without requiring a constitutional amendment. It should be LG based and community not state governor controlled. It is not working Whether the video making rounds is true or not is mute. A unitary police system is a complete and utter failure. Only local police specific to the 774 LGAs of the nation, funded locally with additional block grants from FG and States can secure a diverse, federal union.

Is the third force within SDP aligning as in 1993 against the second? In every regime since 1993, they were strategic actors or bystanders.

ING 1993 & Abacha Regime- Kingibe Faction was incorporated.

Obasanjo 1999 - 2003 - Atiku Faction was incorporated and beat the Kingibe faction to VP. MKO Faction went into AD and focused on regional base.

The completion of the @OfficialAPCNg selection of its candidate @officialABAT to compete against @OfficialPDPNig candidate @atiku completes the generational transition of political leadership from the 1966 Class to the 1992 Class. Folks always delude themselves about delegates and their behavior. I always find external analyst views, especially journalists, interesting on these matters and they always seem to miss it. Because not all delegates, like all elections, are equal. #DelicateDelegateInsights Not all elections are the same, and delegates are not given enough credit as to how savvy they’re about these things. Delegates are politicians, first and foremost - and want to win, which is the most important factor to them: not money, not godfather. #DelicateDelegateInsights

This has immense effect. #ElectoralActDebacle I remember the parties using the passing of this Act as a hammer to beat up on the President. The man signed it and now they have in it errors that exclude themselves from the delegate game. Who is the blame? 🤦🏿🤣#ElectoralActDebacle

They don’t know their own history. So sad. Your government was cut off from international stage upon pressure by leading African nations like NIgeria, Egypt and Ethiopia to pressure your Massas to liberate you. All the while Britain and USA supported Massa. But we forced it. A LETTER FROM NIGERIA’S PRIME MINISTER ABUBAKAR TAFAWA BALEWA TO THE ANC SENT ON APRIL 4, 1961.
Immediately after sending the letter, Sir Balewa lobbied for the effective expulsion of South Africa from the Commonwealth in 1961.

A lot . This Economy is about to zoom. The hard stuff is being done no matter how under appreciated. Sat through power reforms meeting today, as well as discussions on agriculture, energy (including gas) and manufacturing. Things are about to get cracking. The next President will never have to deal with how to finance infrastructure because InfraCo, tolling etc will be operational. The next President won’t deal with power sector liquidity and investment, because Metering will be nearly 100%, even fuel subsidy won’t be on the table.

I guess with the selection of Service Chiefs, our troublemakers have moved on from evicting each other over the farmer-herdsmen clash to another topic. I run a ranch @owonikokofarms & it has both a farm & livestock section. So have some interesting insights #NigeriaCattleProblem 1-/ First, let us agree that avoiding Beef or its byproducts is like avoiding air. It is everywhere from your food to household items. It is called CASH COW for a reason. Even the film for food wrapping use Fatty Acids. Hence you should care about #NigeriaCattleProblem

One of the most poorly understood concept in budgeting is this broad division into capital and recurrent budgets. While it is true that this separation is nearly always never black and white, it will also be wrong to assume more capital budget means a better budget than recurrent Capital budgets for a growing and developing country is inevitable. You must build infrastructure, spend on military and critical social investments (hospitals and schools). However, when you build - you must maintain & staff. That is recurring. #budget2021

Been musing variously at the concept of “winning” politically, of late. Some time, momentary political wins are overrated. No doubt, winning is sweet. And a loss can be gut wrenching, but history is replete with instances where it was far better to lose! Follow Me. Lets go on the history lane. One instance that comes to mind for a young nation like ours, was 1959-1960. The election of 1959 was seemingly watershed moment for the country. The winning party would seemingly shape the future of the country. NCNC, AG & NPC were on the ballot ImageImage

I heard the latest thing pissing off the children of anger on Twitter is the award of Kano-Kazaure-Daura-Maradi/Dutse Railway.Did they tell them only Fulani people will be allowed on the rail carriages? It is an infrastructure for Nigeria & Nigerians. Sell easily to Niger. Simple The Kano-Daura/Kazaure-Maradi corridor, is an ancient trading route. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit there last year - read about it here. link.medium.com/QQgg8PWw29

Why can’t people be happy for development?

This article breaks down the obvious, Nigeria’s increasing poverty is due to lack of savings by its shrinking middle class occasioned by a lack of investment in public goods - Education and Health, that will otherwise save them this cost. A must read.

businessday.ng/uncategorized/… The obvious sector to start with has to be healthcare. There has to be a way to get quality healthcare to 30 million Nigerians in the middle class via a functional health insurance system that targets where they work and builds hospital system around where they get care.

The most angry Nigerians are the elites. Let truth be told. The President is doing the hard work. The entire architecture of corruption subsidies that have benefitted the rich at the expense of social services that would otherwise have accrued to the masses are being taken down. They once used to leverage the existence of these subsidies to blackmail the president during his re-election, that he was not reformist and unserious about “change” or reforms. @MBuhari wisely ignored them. Built a foundation of trust then moved in the second term to dismantle

The first political party organized in Nigeria, in 1908 was built to stop Water Taxes, and piped borne water. Yes, Nigerians have naturally been anti-taxes. The elites use populism here to deny us common franchise by idiocy. 🤣 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People's_… “An early goal was to stop a project to bring piped water into the city. All residents would pay taxes to cover the costs, but the wealthy Europeans and Africans with piped houses would be the main beneficiaries.” - Yeah 🤣

Of course the recommended solution is to return Boko Haram🤷🏿‍♂️ They were the ones securing the roads The problem of a single experience analysis here. You took those trips in 2014 because you were at the beginning of the insecurity cycle. You were ignorant. The dividends of our population doom, bad governance and years of disinvestment in education & infra were just coming due

Never get this idea of “it is a wrong time to enforce the tax” idea. It is a red herring. Sounds good but utter rubbish. If you think the tax is not a good idea, repeal it. Even suspend it by legislation. There is never a convenient time to enforce the law. Never. In the last 6 years, If Nigeria was not in recession, it was recovering or another disaster was lurking. When exactly would it be convenient to do the right thing to stop kicking our fiscal mess to the next generation? When? We like deceiving ourselves.

Schooling is going to be disrupted Post-COVID. As a parent, my kids are healthier and I’ve visited the hospital less since the lockdown. They’ve also learned more. They’re less tired, seem to be happier waking up at 8am instead of 5am to use 2 hours to prepare and commute Teachers won’t go away, we will need them at home and in our virtual classrooms more than ever before. To be what they used to be originally in the Greek and early Industrial Age- Tutors and Educators. The new title will be HOME EDUCATORS. To guide and direct virtual learning

The level of inequality that we will see after COVID-19 is yet to be imagined. The children of the rich and educated, are not missing school. Only the Poor. Go Figure. Hope our world is ready for the reverberations. premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines… In Nigeria, we have a bunch of State Governors waiting for life to happen to them. Only @followlasg is doing the needful to fill in the obvious gap in learning on several fronts including online, over the radio/tv and feature phones. Proud to lead @_LoftyInc_ that is helping. Image

Just saw this Presentation by @sgyemikale . This three steps; is a no brainer! Job Creation, Formalize leveraging IDM and tax. If all three are the focus on economic policy for 3-8 years, and is coordinated at all three tiers - this economy will go busters!
